| Vomiting! So, I posted earlier this week that Bella had vomited only once but seemed better the next morning. Well, she did it again last night and this morning! She is also biting and scratching as if she has fleas, but doesn't. I mean she will RELENTLESSLY bite at this one particular spot! It almost appears that the hair may be thinning in that spot too. I am freaking out because I don't know what to make of all this! My dh said maybe it's her food? Only thing is she has been on the Halo brand food for about 6 weeks now. I would have thought if it were her food it would have done this sooner? Ugh, IDK?! I made her an appt with her vet in about an hour and will update once I know what's going on.

| My guess would be food allergies. My cat Suki acted the same way. However, what does the vomit look like? Is it the food? |

Sooooo, she said that we should do trial and error first since it's just random and not frequently. She wants me to switch her to all wet/moist food. She said she thinks she is having a hard time digesting the dry food. Also she wants me to switch her to something with less than 12% fat. She is currently eating Halo brand and she told me a few foods to choose from. However, the foods she told me to choose from were Eukanuba, Science Diet, and a few others, but I can't remember now! I thought those two foods weren't good at all? She said I need to put her on a premium high quality food. I honestly thought Halo was?! She told me that it is but if she's allergic to it, then we have to switch. So, here I sit, confused as ever because she mentioned Pancreatitis, and food allergies, but I thought she was thinking more it was her tummy not digesting the food enough?! I am going to switch her food though per the vet and just play the waiting game I suppose....

| Forgot to add that the constant biting she does to herself is more than likely from a flea. Even though we couldn't find any, she said they can jump on and off! I always assumed once they jumped on, they had found THEIR furever home?! So, I started her on the Revolution for both fleas and heartworm prevention. She was just on heartworm prevention, but this is a topical for both.

I switched her to Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet food. Rylie (my morkie) is now on it as well. It comes in "small breed bites" size for dogs in the potato and duck variety. It is lower protein than a lot of foods too, which I like. I would try NB LID if I were you. It addresses a few of the potential problems all in one go (food allergies would be solved by the LID and grain free and weird protein source, smaller pieces of kibble to aid digestion, lower protein levels than other foods, etc.). If you get the bag from Petco, and your baby does not improve on it, you can return it for a full refund and try something else! This is my suggestion, but is by no means expert advice. It worked for us and I hope you find something that works for you! P.S. I know they make LID wet food for cats, but Suki is on the kibble. Not sure if they have LID wet food for dogs though since we don't feed wet at all. Last edited by Furbaby Friend; 04-07-2011 at 11:00 AM.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | My Taycie has an extremely touchy stomach. I have tried foods with a higher fat/ protein and I always end up with a sour touchy stomach. There is nothing worse then waking up in the middle of the night to a miserable puppy. The best thing that has worked for me is putting her on a Limited Ingredient Diet. Also trying a uncommon protein source helps. Many dogs have issues with chicken... So just trying a different protein might make all the difference. I first bought Pinnacle Duck and Potato.. Worked WONDERS... I am almost through with the bag and decided to try some of Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diets. I finally just bought a bag of Sweet Potato and Venison... I have given her a Tablespoon with last nights meal and this morning meal and she seems to be doing just fine! I know many on here, like me, have there dogs on NB LID diets and they work fantastic. They are lower in fat as well. Good luck! I hope this helps!

However, it sounds like my old vet is much more retarded than yours. I'd see if the flea meds work, but at this point it is going to be trial and error with everything. Usually you can see flea dirt with fleas... did you find any?

| Halo is a premium food but it could be a specific ingredient in the food. I would go to the site Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble and find the list of ingredients in her current food and keep them as reference. Then find a food with very few ingredients to feed her and see if she reacts to those ingredients. Keep a list of what ingredients she reacts to and does not react to. Then you will be able to use the list to shop for food. Buster gets fleas when he goes out for walks and once they have bitten he will chew/scratch the itch/bite even after the flea is removed. But that does not address her vomiting. I would look through the Yorkie Health & Diet - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community section. Many YT members pups had the same issues so they could provide a lot of first hand knowledge on food allergies. I hope Bella feels better soon!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I couldn't agree more... I remember reading your post about Suki before, talking about how wonderful NB LID has been for you. It does get to the point where you can't stand to see them throw up or have diaherra anymore.. I TOTALLY understand that! So far .. I do have to say If I hadn't read your story I am not sure I would have tried it.. So yes.. the more opionions or rather advice the better!

She's doing so much better now, it really is amazing. She still scratches her ears some. My new vet and I are working on finding the root cause of it. Until then, she's on very very low doses of steroids. However, after we switched to NB LID she hasn't thrown up AT ALL (well except for a few isolated furball incidents ). P.S. Her major I'm going to tear my head off itching has stopped though after the food switch. I'm thinking the leftover is environmental, but I can't figure out what it is!
