| Question about going into heat... I just called to book our little Jinx for her appointment to get spayed at the city clinic and her appointment is not until July 14th...she is 18 weeks now. They put me on a cancellation list but they said they don't often get them as people lose their deposit when they cancel. When do female yorkies generally go into heat for the first time? She will be 8.5 months at the date of the surgery. She is 3.05 kg(6.71 lbs now). Thanks. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Most will go into heat between 8-12 months, leaning towards the 12 month time. My Ruby's first and only heat heat came right at a year old, she was then spayed about 6 weeks later.

| It can be at around 8 months. They are all different. Since they will need to have your dog put under anesthesia check to see if she will need retained puppy teeth removed at that same time so you won't have to put her under again. Most yorkies retain some of their puppy teeth, so be prepared.

| Thanks. We decided later this afternoon to cancel with the city and go to our own vet. They were able to get her in at the end of April when she is six months. They also remove any stubborn baby teeth while she is under saving her a second anesthesia. Also since she is tiny (despite her weight) they will microchip her while she is under. Definitely feeling more relieved now. We want to have her spayed prior to going into heat...we do not have the interest or experience to even consider her having puppies. |
