I wish I could try this for my dogs but my vet doesn't carry it. The only choice I have is K9Avantix II and Sentinel for fleas, ticks and heartworms. I bought flea meds and Sentinel for the two puppies last night and flea meds for my other dog and it cost me $111. That is a lot of money a month. Can you get it at a pet supply store? I have to look for a less expensive alternative. I can't afford $111 a month which will actually be more after my other dog has her heartworm test next month and starts back on heartworm again. |

Sentinel I think Sentinel only covers flea eggs and larvae and I give topical Frontline Plus too for adult fleas and ticks. But please check with your vet or Sentinel. |

Sentinel Yes that is true, but I want to kill any adult fleas before they lay eggs. Also FL Plus kills ticks. Depends on what the risks are where you live. |
what does everyone use if trifexis isn't safe? |
I use heartguard for heartworms and nexguard for fleas and ticks. All you have to do is google trifexis to see all the terrible stories. It has even been on the news! |
dog I would never use triflexis. Dogs vomit get really sick too risky for my boys. I did a lot of research and have used revolution with no problems. PLEASE be careful with what you use. Our York use deserve the safest. Even if a vet pushes this I am Not convinced. |

My partner uses Trifexis for her Min Pin and our Pitbull which both never have had a problem what so ever with it, but I am kind of edgy about using it on my yorkie because he is so little. Also Comfortis is a good one that we used on the Min Pin before the Trifexis. Now we use the Comfortis for our cat which he does great on. I know that our cat and our Min Pin both break out when you use the topical stuff on them so we try to stay away from using it on the other pups so there isn't any transfer when they play. |
My vet gave my 5 1/2 lb. Yorkie Trifexis. She soon developed diarrhea and I really didn't make the connection of the Trifexis. My sister-in-law gave her Yorkie Imodium when he became ill with diarrhea and did well, but he had not had Trifexis. I called the vet to see if the Imodium would be okay, and he gave me a prescription for it. I picked it up and gave my Yorkie some. The diarrhea was natures way of getting rid of the poison (Trifexis) and when I gave her the Imodium it was disastrous. She began to have diarrhea with blood and vomiting. I called my vet at 2:00 a.m. I was told to bring her in. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis which I believe now came from the Trifexes. She is home (after over $900) and seems to be doing well and is on a low fat diet. I do not want to give my dog flea pills, not any! What can I do that is safe and controls fleas? Thank you! |

I was at a local emergency/specialty vets office a couple of years ago (needed to see an eye specialist) when some folks brought a pooch in with some neurological problems after Trifexis. I heard the staff tell the folks they do not like Trefexis and strongly recommend against it. We recently switched to a new regular vet and expressed concerns over the various chemical tick/flea treatments. She recommended the Seresto collar which is good for up to 8 months. So far after about 3 weeks of use, no problems for our pooch and no ticks or fleas - she had already picked up about 2 or 3 ticks before the collar. |
