the problem is that some vets treat all dogs the same, but i think you have to be really sensitive to the breed. remember that yorkies have hair, not fur, so they need to be groomed often. I would not go more than 3 months without giving archie a bath (although i've never actually gone 3 months without giving archie a bath...he bathes when he gets dirty, which is approx. once a week). Either way, he has to be brushed everyday just like you would brush your hair everyday. As for food, yorkies are picky eaters. I was told to leave food out for him all day instead of only giving food to him for certain periods of time. Archie eats really early in the morning, and at about 11 PM. Also, dogs don't starve themselves if they don't like the food, like cats do. If your dog refuses to eat, I would take him to a vet that tells me how I can get him to eat rather than tell me to ignore the problem for four days. At 6 months old, 20 minutes is an eternity to yorkies. |

When i said that the breeders vet said they could go for like 2 days without eating and without having any health problems is meaning that they are NOT sick, when i bought Mojo, the first week or 2 my lil guy ate very little, i didn;t give him any supplement cuz both me and the vet didn;t see a need in it, he was healthy and as we saw he was just getting used to the new enviroment... Doesn;t matter the size of the dog, if they go for 4 days without eating ANYTHING at all, i doubt they are ok, they must be feeling something different, maybe even from not eating..i would take him to get checked by a vet. As per the bath...i wouldn't go more than 15 days without one...even if it snowed here in MIA...hehehehe It is always the best option to get a vet the specializes in small breeds:) |
I am glad to let you know that Leili started eating by herself at noon today. I fed her half of what I usually fed her this morning. At noon I boiled some chicken, then cut it in tiny pieces which I mixed very well with Royal Canine Yorkies 28. She ate all of it. I did the same thing tonight and also she ate all of what I gave her. I gave her a little more thinking I did not give her enough but she only ate a few more kibbles then quit. I am very happy that she started eating on her own without me having to put food in her mouth for her to eat. I think she was spoiled. Cathy |

Wow, When I read this post I thought it was a joke , but then I read further down. Are you sure your vet was not being sarcastic, joking. If this is his/her real statments I would find a new vet quick and fast. I don't mean to be harsh, but your vet is scaring me... I hope he /she was joking |

A dog nor a puppy will not starve itself if the means of food are insight most will tell you this. I do not suggest feeding a puppy wet food and only wet food. /You should mix it with dry food if you plan in the future to give him or her dry food the habit will already form of only eating wet food and you will be back to square one. Dry food is very beneficial especially in Yorkies because they are known to have troublesome teeth if not properly taken care of and dry dog food can help with the hygeine! :) |
