| proin drops The Vet put my ten year old little guy on proin drops for "leaking". He spits it out if I try to put it directly in his mouth; so I have been putting the drops over his dry food. I am concerned that some of it may be going "through" the dry food and winding up on the bottom of the bowl. How can I make sure he is getting the full dosage? Any other suggestions about administering the drops? Thanks |

| Have you tried the pills? I smash the pills and mix with baby food.

| No, just liquid in general. Do you hold his mouth after so that he can't spit it out? It should be near impossible if you put it in the side and do that. If you can't give it this way, I'd mix it with canned (not dry) food or mashed sweet potato.

| I know the drops that I had to give to my Molly were Vanillia Flavored Proin Drops. I put it the side of her mouth and did hold her mouth just to make sure she swallowed it. I also tasted it and wasn't too bad. LOL

| Why don't you drip it on a little slice of bread then put a little slice of cheese over that, he might think he is getting a treat. |

| Thanks for all of the suggestions. His drops are not flavored; just the regular drops. I use the can food to hide the other meds he is requied to take each day. I roll it up in a little ball and hide the other meds in it. I can't give him any more can food that what he currently takes. I have tried putting the proin drops in a little ball of the can food...but it just kind of leaks out. Due to the pancreatits he is not allowed to have any food other than the can and dry food that is perscribed by the vet...so, no bread or cheese. I have been putting the drops over his dry food...but it is hard to tell if all of it is getting absorbed by the food or if some of it is leaking to the bottom of the bowl...I guess I just have to keep trying. Thanks again for your suggestions. |

| Maggie May has to have these drops. She only gets a teeny bit 2x a day. I usually make it a "loving" thing for her. She loves to stand on my lap and put her head on my chin and have her ears rubbed so I do this for a couple of minutes first. Then hold her hair on the side of her mouth and literally open her mouth and squirt it in. I use a medicine dispenser versus the dropper. It squirts out quicker than the dropper I suppose but she doesn't know what hits her. The I usually give her a small treat. Can you give like a small piece of carrot or something else he likes? I give her this before she eats. It's almost like she expects it because sometimes she will not eat right away then I give her her medicine and she goes and eats. I have used a "meat trail mix" or dried salmon treat. She's nuts over these treats so its easy.
