Ladyjane is very experience with rescues. she can give you the best advice. I think it will just take time and lots of love. Good luck, and bless your heart for giving this poor thing a home. |

I am home with her all day and if I have to go somewhere she goes with me. If not, I leave her in the bathroom with her puppy pad. I don't want to get rid of her but my home is not suitable for her. She's scared of everyone and needs a yard to go potty since the puppy pad isn't working out. I have 2 cats, a 6yr old son that are home alot and she runs and hides from them. The only time she comes out is when i'm home alone and i hold her on the couch. but even then she seems depressed. I do like her and have been trying hard but I don't want to make her suffer if she's not happy. |

turning her over to a rescue would really be the best for her. |
I would defer to Ladyjane on this one because this is a dog with a very hard past and it might be more traumatizing than good for her, but I'd say with a mentally healthy pup to try crate training... I don't know about dogs with a tough past though. Are they afraid of crate/bars/crate like objects? Have you tried consistently taking her to the potty pads and saying "go potty" when you know she needs to go? Has she gone on the pads at all? If she has, have you been giving her a treat and praising her? If she is outside trained maybe try putting a pad outside to have her go on and then transitioning inside? I'm not sure how this would work because I've never read up on training them from outside to inside... Maybe someone else could chime in. I really would like for it to work out for you and Chloe. A rescue would be the best choice if you can't work with her though. |
Well i got her from a breeder that told me she was a happy dog and puppy pad trained but seems to be everything opposite but then again she had many dogs and I have none. I do praise her when she goes but it has only been about 5 times in the whole month I have had her. |

You have to watch her like a hawk and look for the signs she has to go (sniffing, circling, etc.) and then immediately take her to the puppy pad and say "go potty" if she gets off keep putting her back on until she sniffs around and goes on it. Then treats and praise praise praise! If she has an accident, and you catch her in the middle, get her attention (I did it with a loud clap and saying her name) to hopefully stop her mid-action and walk over to her and say firmly no. Then pick her up and take her to the pad and say "go potty." If she fully went in the accident spot and doesn't have to go anymore, that's okay just no treat/praise unless she goes on the pad. Never yell at her or try to take post corrective action. You have to catch her in the middle of doing it wrong or else she will not make a connection. Do not punish her for it, just clean it up and keep working at it. It will be slow going, but she'll get it. She also picked up a lot of habits from her old environment remember she has to unlearn and relearn new better habits, so it's harder for her. I know it seems like you've had her forever already and that a month is a really really long time, but in the grand scheme it is only a blip on the radar. Hang in there! Look up potty training tips on YT. That's where I got all my info for training Rylie. Oh I almost forgot to add. Make sure you are using an enzyme cleaner, like Nature's Miracle, to clean up accidents. It breaks down the smell that attracts them to go where they aren't supposed to. I hope this helps or someone can provide more advice or correct my post if need be. Make sure you do your own research on here! There are a lot of great threads on this problem. A lot of people with yorkies have potty training issues! |
Yes i do all that but it still isn't clicking. |
My next suggestion would be crate training then, but I'm not sure if that is okay to do with possibly traumatized/previously ill-treated dogs. Another suggestion would be to figure out how to transition her from outdoor to indoor training, but I haven't done any research on that so I have no advice to give personally. |
I have done my research on that too and it basically all says the same thing that you have told me witch is what i do. I have crate training but she just pees on her self. It is a very small kennel so it's not lke she can pee in the back then lay in the front because where she pees she lays. |

yea but i have been told that's how you crate train is with a small one so they have to hold it because they don't want to lay in it. But with her it isn't working. |
