| Luxating Patella Hello YT, Polo has been holding his back left leg up since he was a puppy he is two years old now. A couple of months ago I took him to the vet and asked her to check his back left leg to see if he had luaxting patella. Well she checked it and said everything was fine and thought maybe, that it had something to do with his hip she took an X-Ray and agian everything was fine. I am really confused what is the problem with his back left leg if its not Luaxting patella? Should I have a different vet check him out? he only holds his back left leg up when he is outside running he can walk normal till he starts running he runs on three legs and it breaks my heart to see that I have been giving him one a day Zukes Hip Action dog treats they contain •Each dog treat contains 300 mg glucosamine and 50 mg chondroitin this has been helping him a little bit he stills holds his leg up though

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear about Polo's leg. I would get a second opinion from an orthopedic specialist since he is having problems with it.

| My little Jack Russell has had an occasional limp (alwys her left front leg). I feel along the leg and she has no tender areas. Twice I took her in and she was not limping by the time of appointment so they could not see what I meant and her lef and hip checked out fine. This last appointment, I got her in the next day and she was still limping. I think they took me more serious and ordered xrays of her leg, hip and spine. Leg and hip again are fine with no arthritis or other problems. But she does hve a narrowing between two vertebra in her neck. The disks get compressed just as peoples do. Since she is only 6, he thought it was not age related, but possibly from an old jumping injury. He said when she is extra active, it inflames the area and presses against the nerves, making her limp a bit. It is not a big problem, and he said she should be fine with a little anti-inflammatory for a few days whenever it bothers her. I was relieved it was not a worse problem. I could also relate as I have disk problems too that seem to affect my left arm most. We have matching infirmaries! Might not be the same for you, but if you want to check, all it takes is an xrqy of the spine. They did hers when she was getting her dental done and already sedated.

| it does sound like it might be LP. i would call around to see if there are other vets that are familiar with LP and small dogs, and get a second opinion from them. a very good product to try for LP is consequin Cosequin Reqular Strength i have been giving it to milu for over a year now, and her LP has improved. she went from grade 1-2 LP to the vet saying, "did i say she has LP?" when i asked him to check again. lol.
