Microchip, do they move? Lacey got her microchip the end of march 2004 and since then it has moved to the side of her rib area. It was inserted at the shoulder blade while she was at the vets for her dental cleaning. Last week I felt a lump in her rib area and went to the vets to have it checked, he told me that it was the microchip and not to worry,it registered fine and it moves around under the skin area. If it doesn't bother her then she's ok. I was just wondering if any of you have had any bad experiences with microchips moving. I know I'll have to watch it now in hopes it doesn't get in her collar/harness area and cause irritations, then it will have to be surgically removed. I know I'd like to microchip Lindsey also when she has her dental cleaning next year for the first time, but now wondering if I should and have the same thing happen with her. I'm puzzled and I know its important to have a permanent identification and tattooing seems crued. Any feedback on this subject would be appreciated. "The Girls" Mom |
I sure don't know the answer to that one. We just had Higgins chipped when he was neutered, and I can't even feel where it is. They said they put it in his shoulder blade area......I'll have to be more aggressive about feeling around there. I didn't want to make it sore since he has just had it placed. But I want to know if it has moved........ |
I never gave it a thought since it was inserted on March 29th, usually between the shoulder blades but while I was giving her a massage( which I do every couple of weeks) just to make sure there are no skin tumors or anything, I felt this small lump. Well, did I ever panic. I thought it was a tumor until I called my vet and was told it was the chip that moved. He told me to bring her in and he would scan her and make sure it was the chip. Well, it sure eased my mind to know that it was the chip but I never thought it would move. My daughter has an Italian Greyhound who is only 8 lbs at a yr. old and his never moved yet. I guess some do and some don't, as long as it don't interfere with their health in any way its ok to move. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same situation. |
Microchips don't move from where they are implanted . My Yorkies have one and they never have had problems . I am planning to use this method for my future breeding . I perfer the microchip . |
toby's chip is right where it was put, no movement here |
I know for a fact that Gypsy Rose's has not moved as she was scanned aboout a month ago when Gizzie Chavi had hers inserted. We are off to Crufts (our BIG dog show) so I know they can scan them there so I'll have both of my girls checked. Ana xx |
Microchip Shortly after getting my girl shaved I noticed a tiny bump on her back near the incertion site with a tiny black dot on it. The vet said it was probably a bite, nothing to worry about. At the following vet check I had her scanned for the microchip and it was gone. They rechipped her. I now plan on having her checked at each visit to make sure it is still there. |
One of my dogs -- Lanny had a microchip move from his back down his front leg. They can remove it and reinsert it but it means putting them under anesthisic. It happens when the little barbs on the microchip don't grab properly. |
microchip They were able to insert a chip without putting her under, they inserted it with a needle. It is the size of a grain of rice. She yelped but no more than any other shot. |
Ok, so so far, no collar's and now no microchip's... |
no collars? I plan on rechipping her, if her body rejects it again. |
I know nothing about the microchip. But you wouldnt think they would move around. |
some of mine are chipped and have never moved so far. i think micro chipping is a good idea. |
When Bailey went to the vet for his 1year visit, the vet did check his chip, and he said " lets check his microchip to see if its in the same spot" and it was,, So, that tells me,,,they can move. |
i'm interested in the microchip. when would be a good age to have it inserted? also what are some of the pros and cons (if any) of the microchip? |
