Dried beet pulp. It is a high fiber by-product of sugar beet processing, is probably what she was referring to. Also, Potassium Chloride is a form of salt, Salt (real salt is listed), Canola Oil is often a controversial ingredient but I don't know exactly why or if canola oil is "bad". Also, "dried beets" is another one that had me :confused::confused: I just don't see why this stuff is necessary in our carnivores food. And what does 'natural flavors' even mean? Since both brewers yeast and flaxseed meal are high in plant-based protein, they are capable of raising the amount of protein reported in this dog food, and plant based protein is not good.

There are only three meat sources in this and they aren't even all the first three ingredients. Rather, they are the first, the fourth, and the tenth ingredients. The further down the ingredients list they are, the less of the product that is in the food. Most of it is made of veggies, rice, and oats. I don't think LA is a bad or terrible food. I just don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. I'm sure some dogs do great on it, and that's great! Every dog is different and some will do well on something that another dog does terrible on.

:thumbup: Agreed. It's not something I would choose to feed my dogs but that absolutely does not mean it's a bad food! Many dogs here do quite well on it, and that is what is most important. We got a sample of it way back when we fed kibble and the dogs didn't do well on it. I prefer to feed my dogs the very best, and they do best on grain-free, high protein diets (which is why we feed raw). When we feed kibble, we feed food that closely mimics a raw diet.

Every bit of this is addressed in the links in my post. Dogfoodanalysis.com drills it into peoples heads that there must be 2 meat sources in the top 5 ingredients and that beet pulp is bad. Please review the links in my previous post to hear the truth about this. Dr Jane's goal to make the most nutritious pet food she possibly can. I challenge you to prove there is a safer pet food available in the USA. For this reason in itself it is worth investing your time into reviewing those links to educate about these myths and why this is a superior food to even the perceived premium pet foods available. It has been proven that these products are mishandled and regardless of what the ingredient label says, it can be damaged due to heat exposre and poor mishandling / storage.

Regarding diarrhea, be sure to switch your dog to our food over a period of a week or so by gradually mixing our food in with the old food in an increasing ratio of new to old each day. This applies to any food you switch your dog to, not just ours. SUdden changes in diet can cause diarrhea. Nutrient dense foods are more prone to this.... ever eat a bunch of fresh fruit or organic food and get gassy / diarrhea?

While I have no real problem with dried beet pulp, I do believe that a majority of (if not all) dog food should be meat. Dogs are carnivores that thrive on high protein diets.

And not to be rude, but obviously the manufacturer of this food would have a problem with a raw diet - why credit something that could potentially hinder her product sales?

I had been feeding my yorkies Life's Abundance for several months now and I sent them an email last week just asking if they were going to make a smaller kibble for small dogs. I didn't care for their reply.
Here is the reply I got:
"No smaller kibble. Did you ever get bit by a 2 pound puppy? They have very

I do not blindly follow one website, btw. It is not just dogfoodanalysis that states these facts. I *have* done my research. I just don't see how anyone could prove that a dog eating higher meat content is a bad thing. I really truly don't know how safe your pet food is, nor any pet food for that matter. A lot of pet food companies blantanly lie. But generally speaking, the only food I would consider feeding or trusting right now is Champion Pet Foods, Acana and Orijen. They have an amazing video on their website showing exactly where their food is made and processed, all free range animals, they explain the entire process. My dog eats better than I do! :p Sad story. Oh, and

Dogs are taxonomically the same species as wolves, and physiologically and anatomically the same and actually share 99.8% of the same DNA. Size and appearance are in the less than .2% differences (thanks to Princess Diana for that information), therefore I like to feed a food that is 'close' to what the wolves eat in the wild (ok, we know wolves aren't getting served kibble in a bowl... but it's the closest you can get, IMO, with the convenience of kibble). I'm actually not even 100% against grains, I will feed treats and occasionally wet food with 'good' and minimal grains in it. I just don't believe they have any real benefit to our carnivores, but I don't think some of them will necessarily hurt or be bad for them, either.

Anyways, it's just my personal preference to feed grain free, low carb, meat protein rich foods. Ultimately, though, I think it's what works best for you and your dog. :) I've done alot of research and have finally settled that this works best for Jackson! Again, I don't believe LA is a bad food by any means. And if it worked for my dog, I would obviously continue feeding it and be happy with it. I just don't think it should be such a black or white statement that LA is "the best" and "only" dog food you can trust and feed (you challenging me to find a safer food). That's just simply not the case. But of course someone who sells it is going to state this. Every dog does good on different things and while LA may not work for some, it will work for others. And that's the great thing about variety. We can choose.

I was offended by the comment that, the only raves of the food are by reps. This is simply not true. I have many people that have seen major differences in their dogs. Overweight dogs trimming down (if you feed crappy food they continue to eat and are never satisfied) allergies leaving, firmer stool, no tear stains, etc. Not just reps.

Sorry, but I personally spent hundreds of dollars for free samples to YT'ers and very few people got back with me. Some people just want a free sample. I have posted videos of what is really in dog food and how LA is different. I doubt very many even watched it.

It is a personal preference and choice to feed what you want, but dont make statements that we say what we say about the food because we are reps for LA. I am not making money, I am losing by giving away free stuff. I believe in the products! All of them! Especially the supplements. After hearing Jane Bicks on calls every other week and people asking her the questions as to WHY she has formulated the food the way she has, I believe it is top of the line! And who else does open conference calls explaining why they formulate it they way they do? There are erroneous sites trying to knock her reasoning and that is exactly why she is writing a book, so these people might learn. There is a reason she is one of our nations TOP Holistic Vets.

As I have stated, I think twice in this thread, I am SURE lots of dogs do well on this food and will rave about it. That is GREAT! I love hearing others opinions on what works well for their dogs and what doesn't. I have also seen these amazing changes when dogs are switched to Acana, or Nature's Variety, or Orijen, or Go!, or many other high quality foods. Whenever I've fed Jackson a kibble with any grains, he tends to get itchy and runny eyes. For example, Wellness Small Breed, he got terrible eye goop, it was gross. But I would still recommend the food, I think it's a good food, it just doesn't work for him. So I'd prefer to stick with what what I know works for him. All I'm saying is it's not just Life's Abundance. Yes, I love, feed, and recommend Acana, but it doesn't work for EVERY dog. And I understand that. I have nothing against LA, and as I've stated over and over, I think it's a good food that has obviously had a lot of thought and research put into it, but so have others. I just don't really think it's that superior to the other high quality foods out there.

No, you werent the one that said that. It was someone else. I was just stating that it was offensive to me as a Rep who is not profiting by giving away the product. I do it because I believe in it and if I get customers, so be it. If not, I will continue the samples as I can afford to.

I enjoy having a relationship with the people in this company. It gives me a sense of security knowing I can visit where it is all made. Its also nice being able to talk the formulator and ask my own questions. Instead of running to the internet and believing the first site I get to.

I understand where you are coming from. You believe in the product and that is a great thing to feel when it comes to feeding our babies.

I know it's how I feel about Champion, so I know where you're coming from. You can also visit their facility, and actually I remember reading on here someone visited Nature's Variety and said it was so clean and nice, and Champion has always answered my emails quick and professional. They don't have anything to hide and will be honest about everything with their customers as well. I have also never run to the internet and believed the first site I went to. :) What would be the fun in that? I like the research aspect of it. :D
