| Diet help Hello. I gave Tila an end of the year haircut, short. Because I want to grow it out this fall and winter. I didn't think she was such a pudgester. But she is! I gave everyone hell tonight, because my dad always gives her things to eat and my mom sneaks her treats! I am steamed! My poor baby is overweight. Do I need to go to the vet to discuss a diet plan or are there things I can do at home to help her along. I am extending walking times, what can I feed her to help her lose a little weight besides getting her more exercise? She eats Acana small breed, how much should I feed her? I usually feed 1/4c morning and evening, is that too much or enough? She's also been sneaking the puppys food. I feel terrible, I should have been keeping better care of her. |

| Aw, it's okay! You are not a bad parent. Exactly how overweight is she? What is her weight she would be best at? Jackson is 15lbs and he eats 1/4 cup in the AM and 1/4 cup in PM of Acana Grasslands, but that is the grain free variety so it's a bit more calories, etc. He eats 1/2 cup total of kibble per day, plus some wet food and treats. And he stays at a perfect weight. He's also very active and athletic. Sneaking puppy food could do it because most are higher in fat, I believe. Like you said, just up the exercise and walks, and lower the food.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Since your parents are set on giving her snacks, encourage them to give things such as pieces of carrot, green beans and the like. They are high in fiber, low in calories and the crunching seems to satisfy the dogs a lot more than a soft treat.

It all depends on the food she is eating when it comes to how much she shouild have... But for snacking you can give her carrots and greenbeans... Izzy loves baby carrots raw...

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | After a tricks training class, Joey gained too much weight, and the vet suggested I cut his food by 1/3, and give him about 5-8 green beans to fill him up. He lost about an ounce a week. In other words don't do anything drastic, or cut the food too much, stop the unhealthy treats. I get the frozen green beans because they have no salt, and Joey loves them, even for treats.

| She seemed a good weight when she was 6 1/2 pounds. She was slim, but not skinny and not pudgy. She's 8.4lbs now! She is so chubby, I didn't realize the extent until I cut her hair last night. I told everyone some green beans with her food and carrots, etc. would be good as snacks. No sneaking her things. They have a light and fit Acana, I'm wondering if I should switch her to that. I'm just worried because she has such little legs. I'll just increase her walks a little bit, because I don't want to do anything real drastic and harm her in anyway. Does that sound okay? And thank you everyone. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Ok so after this thread I also gave Izzy a grooming and saw that she is alittle over weight too... She in 8 lbs.. She looked better at 7 lbs.... So we'll be doing the "only 1 treat per day and greenbeans & carrots" " diet.. She just stating eating "raw" about 1 month ago and she LOVES her food now..lol.. Guess we need to give her 3 disks instead of 4..lol
