My puppy is 11 weeks at 2.7 lbs...my vet gave heartgard plus up to 25lbs...is it safe to giver her? |
We split one dose of Heartguard between Max (5 lbs) and Sasha (3.5lbs). I think a full dose is too much. |

Things like Frontline flea and tick preventatives can be split, but not heartworm preventatives. |

hello everyone! I have a question for you guys... I took my girl (chanel, 14 months and 3.5 pounds) to the vet yesterday and they give me an intestinal dewormer and I purchase heartworm too, but I dont know if I should give it to her all at once, or wait a day to give her the other dewormer??? (she doesn't have anything all test are negative |
Dj17 Wormers. I would ask the vet about that. With wormers I found I had to check carefully what parasite each make of pill covers. All worm tablets are not equal. I use Sentinel Spectrum, as it covers most worms including Heartworm, Tapeworm etc. My dog got tapeworm although he was on a regular dewormer, but it did not cover tapeworm. The vet may have given her a broad spectrum dewormer and expected you to follow up after a month or other time? |
For the heartworm dewormer 1 each month, but for the intestinal worms every 3 months |
Worming Thanks. I thought that usually one only gave one wormer, to include Heartworm and some other worms as well? It is given once a month. But your vet may have given you two meds to cover all bases, :) I would give the Heartworm soon, as that parasite is the worst for the pup to get, and I would leave it a week or so to give the general wormer. I personally do not like dosing my dog up with too many meds at once. But your vet will give you the best advice for your dog, and others here will also probably have different regimens. As she is so small, I hope they sell doses small enough for her. My dog is ten pounds, so no problem there! Good luck and hope she takes the pills well. |
No one at the vet told me to cut the medication (my baby is 3.5 pounds) i just gave it to her !! Is she going to be ok???!!! |
Im talking about the heartgard plus |

My boys are on the same one and I think the smallest dose is 10 pounds and under. They are bigger boys, so I understand your concern. I think Sentinel is the same way: 2 to 10 pounds. I don't understand the need for the second dewormer since the HG Plus covers roundworms and hookworms too. I've read here of breeders doing both though. |
Thank you ! She's ok ! She didn't have any side effect |
