| A worm....Eeeewwwww!!!!!! So I got my 6 month old girl Molly 3 days ago and the first day I noticed a tiny 'rice' segment looking worm in her stool. I immediately got her a vet visit and some dewormer. I am completely grossed out even though its not her fault....I have a few questions. First, should I tell the breeder about this? I mean she was supposed to have been dewormed and I am kind of ticked off that she had them. Second, I am worried about my 5 month old boy. Does this mean he will get them also I am so worried for him. He has never been sick since I have had him and I do not want him to get that way. And the last question gross so sorry After the dewormer, she pooped and it had worms in it but since then she hasn't had any in her stool. Is she done or should I suspect more parasites in her stool? Sorry for all the questions but I am so freaked, I HATE WORMS!! Oooh, one more question....she slept on my bed before I knew about this....sickening! Should I worry about my bedding? I washed the puppies bedding and my sheets but I was just thinking about my comforter. Eeeewwww!!!!!

| I have heard time and time again that it is very common for puppies to get worms. Raley had them once and after he was wormed at the vet he hasn't had anymore. He had been wormed twice prior to me ever seeing the first sign of worms. I did wash his bedding because a puppy can get worms by eating an infected flea....I would keep an eye on your other pup and if you see a sign of worms head to the vet. I believe some vets worm as a precaution. You could call your vet and ask. Good luck!

| I forgot to mention there are different kinds of worms. Tapeworms are what appear to look like rice. That is the type of worm that is obtained from ingesting a flea. I have no experience with any other kind of worm. Good luck!

| Yes tell the breeder. If your pup has them and she hasn't been with you long, she didn't get them from your home. If she has them, the breeders other dogs might have them too. The breeder might not even know her dogs have worms.

Senior Yorkie Talker | worms ewwww! I know what you mean about being grossed out about the worms i hate them to. Well i really do think you should tell the breeder also to see what he or she has to say about it. I'm really not familiarized with the diffrent kinds of worms but it's a good thing you to him to the vet keep me posted to see how he is doing.

Your five month old shouldn't get them unless he has been in the 6 month old's poop. BTW, they sell a de-wormer at Petsmart for about $10 called "SafeGuard" which I highly recommend. It can be used as a preventative (every 6 months) or as a treatment. I have had great results with it. So you can use it on your 5 month old just to be safe. (Wait, ETA that I don't know if it can be used on puppies under the age of 6 months so I would double check on Petsmart). Ahh the wormy poop! I HATE IT TOO! After I gave my dog the dewormer she had a poop just FULL of worms which was horrifying. After that poop though she had no more worms! I just assume that the dewormer killed off all the worms which came out all at once in the poop. I take it as a sign that the dewormer has worked! I would wash your comforter just to be safe, because worms CAN be spread from dogs to humans (which is what freaked me out the most). Last edited by maybeiloveyou; 07-29-2010 at 12:04 PM. | |
