12 Pound Yorkie? Hello! I hope everyone is well! I have a 2 year old yorkie who was given to us at 12 pounds. She doesn't seem bulging or anything and her length, from tail to before her head, is 15 inches. She seems quite large compared to other yorkies...:confused: I just wanted to know what others think about this please. :) |
welcome to YT!!!....sounds like you have been given a big chunk of yorkie love....they sometimes do still get that big....they originally were a 12-15 pound dog so sometimes they go back to their roots so to speak.......sounds like she is the right weight for her height...........just love her and enjoy the fact that sounds like she is a strong sturdy girl..............by the way.....we want to see pics and we would love to know her name!! |

I have two oversized Yorkies! 11 and 8lbs. Wouldn't have it any other way. :D |
Welcome to YT! Yorkies seem to come in all sizes. As long as your little one is healthy, it shouldn't matter what the scale says. You just have more to love. :) |

I have 2 boys one is 12 and the other 8 1/2, I also have another boy he is barely over 2 lbs and a female that is 5 1/2 lbs. |
My Pebbles is just under 12 lbs and is all Yorkie. I also have 2 yorkie/maltese mixes about the same size too. Welcome to the Teapot Club ;) |

kayden is 16 pounds now. almost 2 years old. she's my pal. she travels in the car with me...she's been to missouri and back 5 times now...12 hours one way. ( but we stop at most rest areas to play ) and she loves the water! she swims with me at the river and loves it! i have to make her get out and rest at times! enjoy your teapot! i know i sure do love mine :) |

From FiestaBiewers.com: "In 1865, Huddersfield Ben was entered the world. His owner, M.A. Foster, popularized the breed in England. M.A. Foster demonstrated that Huddersfield Ben was very successful in the rat killing contests (these were quite popular in the 19th century), and he won more than 70 prizes as a show dog as well. In 1872, the Yorkshire Terrier was introduced into the United States, and was recognized by the AKC in 1878. However it wasn’t until the 1930’s that the Yorkshire Terrier took on its modern look. Interestingly, the Yorkshire Terrier, up until the 1930’s, weighed approximately 30 pounds, not the 3 to 7 pounds it does today. " Just the fact that today's breed standard specifies "not over 7 pounds" tells us that some will weigh more than 7 pounds, or there would be no need to specify that in the standard. My girl is 11 lbs, and she's still small to me. She's strong, lean, and sturdy! |

I tend to prefer bigger yorkies I have a 9lb boy and 2 new babies that I hope will be on the bigger side....they are 5 months old and still under 5lbs so not sure yet how much more they will grow....enjoy your big baby!!!!! |
well the breed standard is not to exceed 7lbs, but if your not plannning to breed or show its fine if its just for a pet any dog will do as long as you love your yorkie well mines is 7 months and barely weighs 2 lbs but she was very sensitive when she was smaller if she got too excited she would just get weak and start shaking i would give her karo syrup and keep her warm and it went away it happened 3 timES And i thought i was going to loose her everytime and i havent spayed her b/c i wanted her to have pups so if she has more than 1 one since ill give oe to my mom i wanted to keep the rest and get her fixed but if she doesnt get anny bigger and heavier i dont want her to go through a c-section and i dont want to risk her life and i guess shell never have pups :( so i guess as long as shes healthy its okay my next yorkie i will make sure wont be too tiny |
