When is it ...too much pineapple? Took me about 2 months to figure out what to do to get my Yorkies to eat all their foods when it's meal time. It's usually a game of beg and please....usually it's me saying "please eat". I've tried everything from putting the food down and letting them decide to eat it or not and taking it away after 30 mins (which they'll just choose to starve!! I've heard their bellies growling)...to adding in little bits of their favorite treats so they smell it and want to eat it! Anyways, a few weeks ago we had to change foods because Lillie was eating her poop. :sickie: I started feeding her pineapple as others on here has recommended while I incorporated some of the new food. She has since stopped eating her poo....but she LOVES the pineapple bits in her dog food. She gobbles it up like a homeless mutt being fed for the first time. Is it okay to feed my dogs these pineapple bits with all their meals? Or do you think I should just pour in some pineapple juice? Advice??? Anyone???? |
That's curious. Have never heard of giving your yorkie pineapple. Will be interested in the responses. |
Knox likes it. I give him a bite or two. Not much though. |
Good question. I know there is an enzyme that makes the poop taste bad (how much worse it could taste I cannot imagine), but there is a lot of natural sugar in there, too. So, I will be curious to see what the responses are on how much is too much. I'm a give me ounces and pounds, please. Pinches, bites don't much help. One person's bite or two could be another person's 1/2 cup and is that each meal or once a day... what do you mean by bits? how many bits, how often? LOL I need more exact than that. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Seriously. I'm scared to wing it when it comes to the furbabies. |

Congrats on finding something that works for your babies. I am curious how many things you went through before you came up with pineapple? Pineapple is generally considered to be a healthy fruit - I don't know any animal that will be harmed by pineapple, except if it's thrown! Just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't put on any unhealthy weight. What food are you feeding that you are having such trouble getting them to eat it? |
If she is not eating her poop any longer then you have found the proper amount of pineapple to feed her. I usually don't suggest putting it into the food directly but feeding chunks as a snack several times a day. The idea is to break them of the habit of poop eating and once they stop you should eventually begin to cut back and stop the pineapple. My three are not poop eaters and love to have pineapple too. Maybe you could try easing off adding it to their food and just feed as a snack. If she start to have an interest again you can increase the amount back up to where you were when she was not eating poop. I've never heard anyone having an issue with the sugar content in a few pieces of pineapple. Plus~it really does work if you are consistent! Congratulations on you NON poop eating pup :p |

It really does work! One member had a little rescue from a mill and she would spin and eat her poop before it hit the ground. But sadly this is very much a mill dogs way of keeping their cage clean. Her foster mom was absolutely grossed out by her behavior. Pineapple to the rescue. If a spinning poop eating mill rescue can be taught with pineapple to stop eating poop that is huge! She is now a NON poop eater :) |

Dogs eat by smell and many times by adding something like parmesian cheese that has a very strong odor will also get them to eat too. But I believe she is feeding the pineapple for poop eating issues and now her cured poop eater like it as part of her food. |
okay, now that I have actually have amounts I'm going to really try it. I'd heard about the 'cure' since I found YT, just never tried it in earnest. I have a poop eater. Problem is, she will not touch anybody's poop, including her own, with the lone exception of her sister's. She eats only her wombmate's poop, and that she will try to get before it hits the air. So, now we'll find out if it's the poop or just an unnatural obsession with her sister. |
