Oh good, I would also keep food out all the time. They can use their energy reserves very quickly, and an attack of low blood sugar will make them lose their appetite, which makes it even worse. At this age, low blood sugar is very serious, and can cause death.

Thank you all, that sugar water did marvels, he had some and then ate a lot of food. Now he's going to sleep. I'll let the water near him, just in case.

The pictures are really cute, but truthfully I've never seen so many pictures of a puppy lying down. I didn't get Joey till 12 weeks so I don't know what an 8 week old puppy is like, but he seems so tired all the time. I hope you get a vet check as soon as possible; there may be some sort of underlying problem.

If the sugar water helped, then indeed because of his age, his little body is still unable to retain it's sugar levels.

At 8 weeks of age, you have to regulate his rest... But, I would get him to a vet and have him completely checked.

More than likely he misses his mom (which he really shouldn't be away from at all), his old environment; he's in a new location. All which contribute to stress in a wee one.

Right now, instead of sleeping, he played with us. He slept about 12 hours today. He can be very active, but as someone said, puppies so young an sleep up to 18 hours. Good night all! Tomorrow is vet day!

Make sure to feed him again before you go to bed. Young pups can actually sleep more than that.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk:) I wanted to wish you all the best with your new baby. You have already been given excellent advice for your baby so I hope you get good news from the vet tomorrow. Your baby is adorable, btw! ;)

Your little Nero is very cute. Congrats. Hopefully he will get used to the new environment quickly and starts eating on a more regular base.
He looks like he is a lot of fun and for sure after the long car ride, missing his mom and siblings, checking out the new place, vet visit etc he must have been tired.
Apparently it is common here in North America that most puppies stay with their mom at least until the age of 12 weeks. It's different in Europe, puppies go to their new homes after week 8.

Actually, it's not common for puppies to stay for 12 weeks, many states have laws that say 6 weeks is ok, but this is for all breeds and don't take into consideration the special needs of toy breeds. The YTCA, which are the experts on the Yorkshire Terrier in the United States, suggest a minimum of 12 weeks to insure the best outcome for a Yorkie puppy. They have found yorkies that have spent this time with mom and littermates, have learned important socialization skills, such as inhibition of the biting reflex, and some mama's who are pad train will begin teaching their puppies to be pad trained by nudging them over to the pad. Also, at 12 week, hypoglycemia isn't such a major concern, and puppy has had more of it's vaccinations. Allowing a toy breed to stay with their mama for 12 weeks gives the puppy the best chance of a healthy start. He's fine. Went to vet and he said he is ok :D Anyway, he started eating and that makes me happy. We played for about 45 mins and now he is a little tired.

It's very common when pups make a transition to a new home to go off food for a bit. That is one of the reason for keeping pups with their mom and littermates for a minimum of 12 weeks. If a pup is weighing less than 2 pounds they have nothing to fall back on when they go off food. So, many things can happen at this young age. Changing enviornment can provoke bring those things to the surface.

Keep an eye on your pup, make sure he gets plenty of rest, don't take him out to public places until he's completed all his vaccinations. Shots should just be beginning between 8-9 weeks, 2nd and 12 weeks and the 3rd and 16 weeks. Rabies not until 6 or 7 months of age. No Lepto or Corona or Lime, unless those diseases are prevelant in your geographical area. However, Lepto can cause kidney failure in toy breeds and you can lose your puppy.
