Who feeds ACANA??
 

Zhoie loves fish flavor foods. I'm was thinking of buying ACANA PACIFICA, anyone use it?
I see it has 33% protein, is that to much :confused:

I feed Acana (Prairie & Grasslands). The boys love it.
Pacifica was to stinky for me. Dogs liked it. I just thought the food and poops smelled to much -LOL

I also feed Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken & Brown Rice.

Zhoie absolutely loves anything chicken, but it makes hers eyes really runny, so we have to go with fish or some kind of beef. No chicken is tuff.

Same thing happened here. Stinky is not nice .

I guess, I never noticed the stinky poo cause Zhoie goes outdoors to do her job. I know using fishy flavors won't help her breath though, lol.

Mine eat Acana Grasslands & love it. Mimi is really picky & I've switched couple of times just for her, but she's not complaining.

About the protein level, this is from dogfoodanalysis.com for Pacifica:
The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product, in meal form. There is a second meat ingredient third on the ingredient list, and additional fresh fish products further down the ingredient list. These are, however, inclusive of water content. Once this is removed, as it must be to create a dry food product, the ingredients will weigh around 20% of their wet weight, and may be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list than indicated. With a meat product in meal form heading the ingredient list (i.e. already dehydrated) we can continue to have some confidence in the meat content of the food.

The main source of starch is potatoes, with a range of other fruits and vegetables amongst the minor ingredients. We appreciate the use of whole eggs in the food, and the range of probiotics.

Overall, this appears to be a good quality product with no low quality ingredients. It is an entirely grain free product: Grains are not a natural part of a canine diet and it is pleasing to see dog foods on the market that exclude grains completely from the diet.

I have heard good things about it. I don't feed it personally I would be worried about that high of protein.

I used to feed Acana; my dogs loved it. After a while, one of my dogs couldn't tolerate it because of the high protein. The Pacifica is very fishy smelling and Max turned his nose up at that one real fast. Its rated a five star food on dogfoodanalysis.com.

I have a bag coming today (Grassland)! I had a sample sent from my friend a few months ago and they loved it :)

I love :thumbup: Acana. High protein causing problems is a myth. If the protein is coming from GOOD sources, (i.e. meat) then it's not a problem. If the high protein is coming from grains or something else, then it could cause issues because the liver has to overwork to process those kind of proteins. High protein is only an issue if your dog already has liver problems, but even so, some people feed their liver comprised dogs raw food with no problems (I'm not advising this, just saying).

Alot of puppy foods even have 30%+ protein (such as Royal Canin Mini 33). Dogs are carnivores and their bodies are designed to eat meat. Domestic dogs are taxonomically the same species, and physiologically and anatomically the same and actually share 99.8% of the same DNA as wolves. Size and appearance are in the less than 2% differences.

Some dogs don't do well on high protein for one reason or the other but I really believe alot of peoples issues are over-feeding. With a higher protein, more calorie food, it's sooo easy to overfeed. Jackson is 16lbs and eats 1/2 cup a day of Acana. Ultimately, though, I think it's what works best for you and your dog. :) I've done alot of research and have finally settled that this works best for Jackson! :)

I feed Acana all the way over here in Germany (oh the joy of the internet, you can order anything!) and Hepburn loves all three grain-free flavors, particularly grasslands. He is healthy and happy, and eats very well! (But the Pacifica is quite stinky, and makes for stinky poops)

We do and they LOVE it!!! This is the food Bandit has done the best on and he has SUCH a sensitive stomach. We rotate between prairie and grassland (chicken and lamb) but they do both include fish in them too!

I feed Acana Pacifica and my pups and I love it! The food itself does have a fish smell that I've gotten used to, but their breath and poo actually have much less odor than most other foods I've fed. Plus, their poo is so tiny and solid now. :) I rotate between Pacifica and Grasslands, and I think this is the food mine will be on for a long time to come. All seven are doing terrific on it. :thumbup:

Wanted to add: I can't feed chicken either, due to an allergy in my oldest. Both Pacifica and Grasslands contain no chicken and he does great on them.

Thanks, I'm going to pick up the Grasslands too and try the rotation. Maybe that way she won't get so bored with it.

I fed Sasha Acana grasslands at one time and she loved it. The only reason I switched foods was because it was more convenient for me to get her current food at my place of work. I highly recommend Acana though. We had great results.
