how much does dental cleaning cost??? My yorky has 3 baby teeth and it is starting to build up as tartar. I have tried to brush her teeth but she doesnt let me!! How much does a dental cleaning cost?? and removing baby teeth????? Anything would help! |
Hello and Welcome to Y.T......I'm not sure if I' understanding, do you mean your pup has some retained baby teeth?.......If so that is quite common. A lot of people will have those removed at the same time as a spay/ or neutering so the pup will only have to be put under anesthesia the one time..... If your talking about just a cleaning that will very quite a bit by your location and the vets fees....Here, the cost is approx. $200-300, you have to inquire if that includes pre-blood work. It is recommended to have that done to see if any underlying issues are going on where putting them under would be problematic. Also, the fee will generally go up for each extraction (one vet charged approx. $9 for each extraction)...... Good luck.....:) |
I recently paid $450 which included the pre-op blood work and removal of a couple of baby teeth. |

Wow! I'm only about 1 hour SW of where you live, I had my Maddie's teeth cleaned in April and it was less than $200, including the pre-op blood work. She didn't have any baby teeth removed, a couple were removed when she was spayed. You should bring your baby to the country next time you need a dental!! The head vet at the clinic here has some kind of certification that a lot of vets don't have and a lot of people come from quite a distance to bring their animals to him. |
I think it varies from region to region. In San Diego, I had Sam's teeth cleaned and it ran me over $300. I had it done again here last year and it was right around $200. And his teeth were just as beautiful despite the cost difference :) |
thanks for all your comments!! |
I had my 13 year old lab/terriers teeth clean last month for less than $200, so it does look like the cost depends on what area of the U.S. you live in. That cost did include the pre-op blood work. They also look great! |
Gee, you guys are lucky. My vet just said that my guy needs his teeth clean and told me the bill would be somewhere between 500 - 800 dollars!! |
OMG 500!!! thats way to much!!! You should find someone else!! Its alot of money! |
I had Kaji's teeth cleaned for less than $100. It was non anesthetic so there was no need for pre-op blood work or putting him under. He had lots of tarter on his teeth and they returned a happy wiggly puppy to me with pearly white teeth. I really like the service. |
I know it's a lot of money. Unfortunately, everyone else I spoke to here said it was about the same with their vets. My little guy is only three! 6 months ago the vet looked at his teeth and said they were fine. Now he needs to have them cleaned:(. I definitely have him on a brushing schedule now, I really don't want to put him under to have this done. A non-anesthetic way to clean their teeth? How did they do it? Is it a new treatment, or were they able to clean your babies teeth without him fighting it? |

To tell you the truth, I would pay the 500 dollars just to NOT have my guy be put under. I really hate the idea of having this done. |
I do not like the idea of having them put under for teeth cleaning either. I think it's just a way for the vet to get more money. I used to raise and train greyhounds for the track and I cleaned all of their teeth myself with no anesthetic. I put them all on an antibiotic after cleaning just in case. I need to have Deucy's cleaned again. It's been 8 months and that was the ony time he needed them cleaned. I do NOT want him put under but, how do you tell a vet that? If you read my posts about BAD VET in KS, you know all about my history with vets around here. i Quote:

I have to call our vet tomorrow. Lil Bit is due for her shots and her teeth need cleaning. I'll post the cost in here.:) |
A cleaning will range from $150-$500 depending on what is included. Extractions would be extra, but baby teeth removal shouldn't cost too much. As they get older, the need for dental radiographs increases (unfortunately not all vets do them) and more in depth work needs to be done. Prices vary by area, but also by surgical protocol. If the vet is using iso or sevo, monitoring constantly, preop bloodwork, IV/fluids, pain meds, antibiotics it all changes the price. And the ones who don't do radiographs will probably be cheaper, but that may not be a good thing. Opinions are definitely varied about anesthesia-free dentals. I'm not going to say they are bad or don't work, but the experts in the field don't like it for some reasons that I'd consider good ones. I definitely understand anesthesia is scary and some may want to avoid it and that is fine if your vet agrees. :) but the vets who choose to use it may actually feel that it is best... |

This vet is low cost, but is an excellent vet. There are about 3 or 4 vets in the practice and they have 11 examination rooms, and there are always plenty of clients when we go. It is a popular vet clinic. |
I agree that it depends on which region of the country you live in. Many of the vets in the state of Alabama are not out to just take your money. For the most part they are straight up honest. With that said, there is one vet in the town we live in. He is more expensive on everything than other vets within a 50 miles radius. I don't believe him being expensive makes him a better vet. In fact, he works M-F 8-5...you can not call him after 5 for emergencies and he will not come in on the weekend. Our favorite vet is 50 miles away. There are 3 vets in that clinic/hospital and each have their own area of interest and specialty. They are the cheapest!!!! They also pull most of the areas business. With that said, I apologize for "hacking" your thread! I hope your baby does well with the procedure!! |

I went to college there and graduated from Troy in 1989. Student taught in Opp while living in Andalusia. Our pediatrician was Dr. Maddox's brother! He always told me he considered his brother a "real doctor"! I am actually from southwest Alabama but was in the wiregrass for 7 years before moving to Birmingham for 14 years. I moved back to my hometown in 2006 to be near my aging parents. Its a small world!! |
WOW!! These prices seem so high. Correct me if I'm wrong, but teeth cleaning costs more than neutering??? Sorry, gotta go, no time to chat...have to brush Rocco's teeth now :D |

What vet do you go to? Aloha was about $300 for Sugar's cleaning and extractions last year  |
We go to Vero Beach, to Florida Veterinary League. We have been going there since 2006 when Lil Bit got a bladder stone and the local vets all wanted over $1,000 to do the surgery. A good friend suggested I call her vet (Fl. veterinary league) as they were less expensive than most vets, but they were really good. So, I called them. Had Lil Bit's bladder stone removed and sent for analysis, had her spayed at the same time. Got her microchipped, the two rescue dachsie's I had their vaccinations and the younger dachsie microchipped, and the total was under $600! We asked the vet who did the surgery how he could charge so little. he said it really doesn't take a lot of time to remove a bladder stone so there is no reason to charge an arm and a leg. Beamer had his shots yesterday as well, with the check up it came to $95. Lil Bit had her shots last week and hers was $78 - apparently there is one shot they didn't give her (DA2PPV?) It isn't really close to us, down US1 past HWY 60. But it is worth the trip. They neutered Beamer in April and that was only $70, they also removed the double canines which was $40. |
Some of the prices for dentals and s/n are amazing. Maybe too amazing... Some clinics get grants or are non-prof, etc. If not, then I just don't see how they can do preop blood work, iv, iso or sevo, safe induction drugs, monitoring, hospital stay, pain meds or antibiotics, extractions, and a cleaning for so cheap. And the techs have to be paid. So, is blood work being skipped or is an alternate anesthesia being used? That's what I'd have to be asking if I was quoted anything below maybe $200-$300 for a cleaning. |

Blood work would have been an extra $60. But she just had blood work done last week. |
