Does anyone use Frontline Plus? Do you any of you use Frontline Plus for your babies? I bought this today, previously I had used Advantage. Any thoughts? Thanks! |
I used the Frontline last year because the K9 Advantix was not working. It worked like a charm!:p |
And you baby had no ill effects from it? I always worry when I try something new. Thanks! |
Please consult with your vet...My vet put frontline on my yorkie, watched him for 2 hours and all seemed well. About a week later he started showing signs of Neuro trouble...leaning to the left, stumbling a little. I got him to neurologist, after testing, he had a reaction to it. We think it was only temporary and he is getting back to normal more everyday. My other 2 yorkies take the pill for flee control and have no symptoms of trouble. He was a ltitle to light for the pill, but I WILL NEVER PUT ANY OTHER MEDS ON HIS SKIN FOR FLEE CONTROL. I know all my friends use it and its fine, so thats not a normal reaction. Just better to be safe ....... |

I use on all 3 of our dogs, and never a flea problem. They will get ticks, but the ticks die. Every now and then we see a live one, but I think those have really just gotten on them from their walks. But for having 3 dogs, we have never found ticks on all of them at the same time. Just a tick here and there. We live out in the country and we take them for walks and they get into grasses and shrubs in fields or woods. So I say yeah for frontline plus. None of my dogs have ever had a problem. I have a 5 1/2 lbs, a 7 lbs and a 12lbs. |
I also use it, divide the dosages and it's still effective. |
Ok, thanks for everyones input. I am going to try this, fingers crossed for no ill effects. She never had issues with the Advantage, but I know every dog is different. You know I asked the lady at Pet Supermarket which flea control was better and she said what kind of dog, I said Yorkie around 7 lbs. She said is it inside or outside? ummm...inside..lol..I couldnt imagine keeping Roxie outside. She said ok , I would say Frontline Plus..Just wierd that she asked me where a 7 lb dog lived..lol... |
I have 2 yorkies....One is 5 lb and the other is 4 lb. I split one vial for both and they did fine! Quote:

I use the spray my vet has always said 1 spray per pound and none of my dogs have never been over 5 pounds pat |
I use frontline plus, I use to use k9-advantix but then I found a tick on Pixie and in her skin. so I posted a poll and found out that k9-advantix has permathin in it.. So I went to frontline plus and have NOT found any ticks on the dogs also it isn't as oily. |

Thats what I was thinking..lol..I was really shocked by her even asking me this, but I guess you just never know. |
i use half of the smallest dose of frontline on morgan. depending on what type of heartworm pill she's on, she'll use either the plus or the regular. with sentinel she only needs regular frontline, but with interceptor she needs the plus |
I use Frontline Plus. I hate using it actually. My boys are 12lbs and 5 lbs. I split a tube between the 2 of them and do it every 6 weeks or so. This keeps the ticks off (I live in a very tick populated area!). BUT I notice my 5lb boy gets very 'blah' for a day or so afterwards and he usually throws up the next day after I do it. I hate doing this to them and using that stuff. This year I bought them some garlic bagel treats from Solid Gold. This is supposed to help with fleas and ticks and so far, I have not had to use frontline and have not had a tick on them yet, or fleas. Keeping my fingers crossed that this works. |

I have used frontline plus for 2 months in a row on Hawkeye. The vet recommended it when we got his rabies shot (he was 7 months old) at the end of March. He has had no problems whatsoever (he weighs about 6 lbs.) We walk at least two times a day on paths that wind through wooded areas and there are no signs of ticks yet. I keep him in a puppy cut so it's easy to check to make sure! |
yeah me either! The boys love them, they are hard so it keeps them busy, I know solid gold is a reputable brand name for food and the women at the specialty pet store told me she can't keep them on the shelves, customers are saying they work so well with ticks and fleas. Thought I'd give them a try! The bag was like $12 but its packed to the hilt and will last awhile, even with 2 boys. I do have a backup frontline just in case though. |
My vet also recommended Frontline plus (this is Elliott's first month on it). I gave him half of the dose, and put the other half in a sealed container for later use. I was a little worried because there are so many stories out there about dogs reacting to Frontline, Advantix, etc, etc, but Elliott did just fine. So far, no ticks or fleas, and he takes one walk a day through high grass and wooded areas. |

I was using Frontline Plus, but it just was not working. The vet says fleas build up a tolerance for it, and they suggest switching for a while. I actually prefer Frontline spray, to use just a little as necessary, but my vet is out of it and back ordered for a month. Today I tried Comfortis pill form (for fleas only, not ticks), and at least none of the 5 are sick from it. I also bath them about every 5 - 7 days. It has been said here many times that the best defense against fleas is to vacuum often. |
Just a bit of an update on this Frontline Plus. I put the first application on Roxie last night, and so far so good. No wierd reactions, etc. Fingers crossed. I will keep you all posted. |
I don't like the smell of Frontline! And you can't bath your yorkie for a few days after applying Frontline. I'd like to see a tick and flea product that is waterproof! Especially because the Yorkies and Biewers have long hair! It's hard to find fleas and ticks on them so if there is a long term solution that is waterproof, it will be great! But I haven't really had too much tick/flea problems! |

The one i uased was once a month on my other dogs a while back and when my last one passed way about 2 years ago and now i have my lil one who is now 9 months old i have not started her on one yet but i think they are all once a month |
I use the frontline plus as well, and my location I have to apply it every 4 weeks. So far the only one that reacts is the cat, he gets a little mellow for the first day, and sometimes pukes, but I apply it to the back of his head (the one spot he cant groom). In addition, because my puppy gets to go outside I have to have a flea collar on him until October (yikes, he hates it!) and every week I bathe him with a flea solution. But considering my indoors only cat (really, never went outside once and at the time it was just him and I in the house) somehow got fleas in March before I thought flea season would start I can tell you it is awful here for fleas. Probably because of all of the strays. And as it turns out, my cat is allergic to fleas, so after just a week I noticed him scratching at himself and saw he had a horrible rash and his fur was falling out. It was a painful process clearing my house of fleas but now we are flea free and with the frontlines help (i think so anyway) I havent seen a sign of flea or tick on either one. |

Frontline Reaction? I put Frontline on my Coco (7lbs) and then put a shirt on her so my toddler wouldn't touch the medicine. Coco was running around like something was bothering her, I assumed it was the shirt. The next day I saw traces of blood in her hair in the same area I applied the Frontline. Has anyone had a reaction like this? I didn't even use the full amount. |

I used to use the frontline and my dogs hair fell out in patches and she had hot spots everywhere. HORRIBLE!!!! Last year I tried a pill called Comfortis. Works great and no oily spot on the dogs. It was supposed to only last 30 days but it seemed to work for 2 months. Love this stuff. |
