Ugh! I can't believe I'm asking about dog food, again! We have been using Nature's Variety for a year now and it's worked out great, until the past few days!! The thing I've loved is the different formulas, it seemed that as soon as they would get bored, it was time to move on to the next one! Well they were at the end of the salmon, which has been their favorite, but they weren't eating as well. So we bought the venison this week and I don't think they like it at all! :( We have tried Merrick, Innova, Solid Gold, Wellness, Canidae, Eagle. So now I'm wondering if we should go the route of one of the foods that has more protein  Artemis, Orijen, Instinct, Fromm?? I'm worried about it being too much protein for them and then also how about kibble size?? |
I will tell you I spent a fortune in dog food over the years but I finally settled or the dogs settled on Blue Buffalo...all of mine like it..hopefully for a very long time but it has been over 6 months and everyone is enjoying it. I do the Turkey/Chicken dry...along with some wet at night. |

I still have the same dilemma as you do. The higher protein foods are to hard on Levi's system. I have tried them all as well with not much success. Levi is currently on Wellness Super Five Mix...but he is not crazy about this either. His favorite so far has been Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul which is questionable because of ethoxyquin issue. I get him to eat better when I drizzle a little salmon oil on his kibble. So I guess we stick to the Wellness for now. You could try the salmon oil...good for the coat and skin and he seems to love it...good luck |
I am a HUGE fan of Taste of the Wild. My dogs eyes (goop) and coat improved dramatically when I switched to this food. I just recently got a Biewer pup who had lost his coat due to an illness early in his life. The way his coat looks now, 8 weeks after I brought him home is truly amazing. And I credit it to Taste of the Wild. PS: Protein is 32% and I am having no troubles. And they have mulitple flavors so you can continue to switch around. |
There is an article on this website you might want to read in regards to protein...:) The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare? |
Have you thought about trying Innova Evo Red Meat Formula Small bites? It contains 42% crude protein and the top 6 ingredients are; Beef, Lamb Meal, Potatoes, Eggs, Sunflower Oil, Buffalo. Only 1 complex carbohydrate in the top 5, which is a good thing. This is my personal favorite. Instinct contains 42% protein but its top 6 are; Chicken Meal, Tapicoca, Chicken Fat( preserved with tocopherels and citric acid), Pumpkinseeds, Menhaden Fish Meal, and Alfalfa Meal: 3 incomplete proteins in the top 5. Orijen contains 40% crude protein and its top 6 are;Fresh deboned chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, russet potato, fresh deboned pacific salmon (a natural source of DHA and EPA), herring meal. Too much chicken and not enough red meat for me, but it does contain quality fish for fatty acids. Fromm contains 24% crude protein, and its top 6 are; Duck, Chicken Meal, Chicken, Brown Rice, Pearled Barley, Oatmeal, Menhaden Fish Meal. Only 2 complex carbs in the top 5, but not a lot of protein. Hope this helps you with your decisions. :) |
Evo to Wellness Core? Sydney is eating Evo small bites and she seems to like the grain-free fish one the best. Her eye goop is pretty bad, though. I don't know if it's the food or not, but I have been thinking of switching her to Wellness Core Grain-Free. I have read good things about it, but I'm not sure. Should I leave her on Evo, which she seems to be okay with the 42% protein (which is good protein and digestible), or switch her to Wellness? |

I asked about Blue Buffalo last year before we switched to NV and it seemed like the response was it wasn't the best choice. Crosley is a piggie, but she can still be a picky piggie! :p |

Yeah, I don't like the ingredient in the Chicken soup either. We used salmon oil for awhile, turned their noses up at it! Picky, picky! I thought we had found a forever food with NV, I'm so bummed about it! |

I see Jack's aquarium in my area sells it, I won't buy from them though because they sell puppies. Thanks! |
I recently switched to NOW! Grain Free Here's the website: Petcurean Pet Nutrition Also, here's thread that was started: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...petcurean.html |
Just curious if you feed canned food as well? I highly recommend it. You can start with a tablespoon in the morning either on top or by itself. It gets their appetite going. All I feed is Lifes Abundance. It was formulated by a holistic vet and they make food every week to ensure freshness. It is also shipped to your door. Let me know if you would like samples. I am now a distributor, here is my site. www.healthyhappypets.biz |

Do you have a Pet Value in your area? Or a TSC Farm Supply? Both of these stores in my area sell Taste of the Wild. Pet Value has little sample bags. They are about the size of a 1 serving potato chip bag. This is how I came up with the right food for my dogs. PetValue has sample bags for many of the higher end dog foods. You can always email the company and see if they'll send you some samples. |
