peeing and holding it too long. Pixie is 7 months old now and lately she will pee around 7or 8 pm and then not go again until about 8 -9 am. We get up at six and she will not pee. Is it normal for a 7 month old dog to hold it that long? She use to pee first thing in the morning, now she waits till I get back from the gym. She acts fine eats and drinks and poops runs around and plays. This started happening after I found a tick on her private area, I don't know if it has anything to do with it or if it is just coincidence. There is no redness down there where the tick was. Any help would be appreciated. I am just a lil worried. |
That sounds waaaaaaaaaay too long to me and I'd be concerned, because I would think there would be a risk of getting an infection. I would expect a bigger yorkie to go a long time, but not even 12 hrs. I dunno. Do you wait for her to go of a morning and give her time to sniff first? |
Wow that is a very long time not too relieve herself. I would ask the vet about that just to be sure. Buddy holds it for 9 hrs with no problem. I've never pushed him any farther, no need to. He goes out at 9:30 in the evening then again at 6:00 am and pees like a race horse several times on our morning walk. Then again at 8am before I leave for work and pees several times again. It won't hurt to ask the vet at least you'll have your answer. |
Seems unlikely! Is it possible that she is relieving herself in the house, somewhere you have not noticed? Check for a wet whiddler, ever couple of hours, to see! One of my monsters dos that on rain days. "no Mom, I'm fine, maybe later...;)" But on closer inspection...... the deed was done! lol If she IS holding that long, I would be getting a vet check. About an hour per month of age, up to 7-8 hrs is good holding power! IMO |
Hmm... I dunno. Some dogs may just be able to hold it longer, but it's odd that she never did it before. Jackson sometimes will hold it longer than other nights, and I think it's because he's too tired to get up in the mornings! LOL. Last night, he went pee around 9:45pm and held it until 9:30am this morning. That's not typical of him, he was just really tired this morning. Usually he holds it about 9-10 hours overnight. |
Pixie is pad trained and I have a pad in her ex-pen and in the living room. She usually goes when she has too. I am a light sleeper and I never see her jump off the bed to go. If I get up in the middle of the night she follows me and I will walk her over to her pad and try to intice her to go and nothing. Sometimes I will shut her in the ex-pen and tell her to go and I walk away and come back after I have gone to see if she goes and still nothing. today she had went around 7pm and I tried to get her to go before we went to bed and she would not. I went to bed and around 6 am we got up and usually she runs for her pad first thing in the morning. This morning she ate her breakfast and I tried to get her to go and Nothing. So I went to the gym and around 8:30 I came home and I thought I thought she would of gone by then and still nothing so I let her out of her ex-pen she ran up and down the hall a few times and then FINALLY peed on her pad. Weird.........I called the vet and he said as long as she is acting fine not to worry. well she is acting fine and during the day goes about every 4 hrs. It was a pretty good size pee when she finally did. She is such a lil squirt and stubborn. If she knows you want her to do something it is like whats in it for me? lol My concern is I don't want her getting a UTI. I can't make her go though. I have checked for pee spots in the house and have not found any unless she is going somewhere I haven't checked. Maybe I should get a black light to see if there are any hidden pee pee spots. She is stressing me out with this. UGH:( |
You mean you don't wanna squeeze it out of her?:D |
We had a dog several years ago who suddenly started going in the house instead of even ATTEMPTING to hold it until 6am when we got up. I soon learned to count when he started peeing outside -- "one one-thousand, two one-thousand" and if he had at least a five second pee I knew I was okay. If less, I started looking for a hidden wet spot. Hubby and daughter soon learned not to talk to me when I was at the door watching the dogs potty. It seems I got a little irate if I lost count :D |

Hmm...Chloe has always gone all night (in her crate) without peeing. She's almost a year old now and we go for our last time at about 9:00 or 9:30 pm and then she goes when we get up in the morning which is anywhere between 7:00 & 8:00 am. We do take her food and water away at 8:00pm; not sure if that makes a difference in how long she can hold it. Also, in the mornings it's not like she rushes straight outside and immediately goes. She spends a few minutes stretching and saying good morning to us, then wanders around the yard to find the perfect place. So I don't get the feeling that she's under a lot of "pressure"! ;) -C |
[QUOTE=yorkiejunkie;3051579] Check for a wet whiddler, ever couple of hours, to see! One of my monsters dos that on rain days. Mostly though when he is outta my sight for maybe 10-15 mins....I know then he has done something....he never is too far from me! Sure enough ...when I feel below, he is wet:eek:! Then he gives me the 'WHAT??!!' look, Like I am trying to blame him or something!! |
I take Teddi for a walk in the morning and she does a lot of pees (maybe 6) and a poop. When I get home from work I usually try to take her out but sometimes she goes and sometimes she doesn't (if it is too cold or windy she will just sit down). I usually feed her dinner around 7:30 and then I will take her out and she will pee and then she is fine until the morning. I have pee pads down in the house and during the day, while I am gone to work, she will pee about 3 times a week and poop about 3 times a week. She is only 3 lbs. and seems to be able to hold it for about 12 hours! |
