| ![]() I was looking through some Yorkie ads in the local paper's online classifieds, and ran across this ad for pups that were "born blue." AKC Yorkie Babies (rare blue) :: Houston Chronicle Classifieds I thought that born blue pups had big health problems, and didn't last very long? And they're selling them for $1200! Somebody's going to be in for some big heartache.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Well, I can tell you this is someone who knows very little about breeding Yorkies. She says, "Two rare blue & gold" yorkies. The yorkie standard is a blue and tan/gold, the blue refers to a special shade of black that reflects light and looks almost metallic, some call it a dark steal blue. Blue born puppies, on the other hand, is a condition where the puppies look grey instead of black and usually lose all their hair as an adult and suffer from skin conditions if they live. The dogs pictured look to be liver/chocolate colored. A yorkie puppy should be black, and its hair gradually changes to the dark steal blue, if you are lucky. I encourage people to only support the best of breeders, if we want healthy yorkie puppies in the future we need to support those breeders who produce them. Thank goodness someone supported good breeding in the past, or none of us would have a dog that was healthy. If you are looking for a puppy, I hope you will check out a YTCA in your area, there really are some breeders who breed because they have a passion for the breed, and their prices are very competitive with BYB's. If you add the cost of showing, (which isn't the frivolous thing many people think, it tells a breeder if a dog should be bred) you will learn that YTCA breeders don't make the profit BYB's do, and their dogs are the best value for the money, by far. Here's a link to YTCA breeder referrals. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club

| ![]() Thanks, I'm aware of all that (YTCA, reputable vs BYB, etc) and I'm NOT looking for another dog, I just get curious and look at the ads. Hopefully your advice (and good advice at that) will help someone else.
