| Wellness food-Stinky Breath?? My 2 yr old little girl Pearla has only been on 2 dry foods so far Royal Canine and Wellness Super5 Mix (small breed formula). She has been on the Wellness most of the time and I noticed her breath smells pretty bad.I just had her teeth cleaned by the vet($350---ouch) and it was odorless for the 1st 5-6 days then after feeding her Wellness again I noticed the smell came back. I feel the food is the cause because when I open her canister where I keep her dry food it smells similar to her stinky breath smell. I want to switch her food to a more raw food and Ive heard great things about Innova Evo small bites, but Ive bumped into some writings of concern with the safety due to its high protein does any of your yorkies have any experience with this brand? Im also considering TOTW and Orjien Pearla would certainly appreciate your recommendations on your favorites! Thanks!

I feed Sasha a rotation of kibble, mainly Innova EVO, TOTW, Orijen and hopefully Acana (if I can find a store locally that sells it). She didn't have any problems on the EVO or TOTW. I haven't gotten to Orijen or Acana right now. Orijen is next on the list. She really seemed to enjoy EVO and TOTW though. | |

YT 2000 Club Member | I too have noticed that certian foods make my toy poodles breath stinky. I have narrowed it down to foods that have certian grains in them, that is one of the reasons why I have recently chosen to go grain free. The only problem I have with TOTW is that it is made by diamond and they use that fish perservative (I cant remember the techical name) in their foods with fish meal. Even though they claim its only trace amounts, for me its still to much. But I do know a few folks on here still use it with great success and it is relativly cheap compared to some of the better foods on the market and its lower in protien. I am currently using EVO small bites for my bigger dogs and they are doing good on it. I orginally was going to put all of my dogs on it, but my little dogs have had issues with high protien foods (lots of poop, gassy, dry skin) and I got scared so I have recently put them on Acana wild prairie which is only 33 percent compared to 42 that the evo has. They seem to like it alot and so far are doing good. Merrick is another good food and they offer several different varities along with grain free. Some companies offer samples either by email or in local feed stores so you may want to try a few samples before you buy a bag of food that your dog may not be interested in. Good luck!!

| I feed Jackson Nature's Variety Instinct and no bad breath here, no tarter yet either and he's 1 year old and 2 months. NV Instinct has 35% protein and Jackson has done fine on it. 2-3 poops a day and they're hard little solid poops, easy for pick up! lol. I have not yet started brushing his teeth because he fights me on it but I plan on getting in the habit soon.

| I've heard that high protein is only an issue, if the dog already has health issues that warrant a lower protein diet...I switched Apple to raw a few months ago, and she's doing fantastic, and also doesn't have bad breath...The thing that surprised me more than no bad breath, is no doggy smell either!!! I wasn't looking for that as a result of raw, but just noticed, all of a sudden, she didn't have that musky smell anymore...However, I didn't mind the musky smell, but she just doesn't have it anymore lol... |

| If you are worried about stinky, I used to feed Evo and my dogs were really stinky, not their breath, but from the other end. (poop smelled like skunk). I now feed Orijen 5 Fish and my dogs have very little odor, comparable to feeding raw. |

| Wellness & Bad Breath I also have been feeding my girls wellness supermix 5 & their breath is horrible! I'm switching them to Solid Gold Bision small kibble to see if it gets better I also bought the Wellness for Small dogs to try. I took them to the vet & their teeth & gums are in great conditions so its definitely the food. Has anyone tried the Solid Gold? My older yorkie has allergies so I've been told by the vet to keep her on grain-free food. So I'm a bit limited. |

| We feed homemade raw - no bad breath, no tarter and Bailey's three years old. Its the best choice for us.
