| My pup tend to eat her own poo.... I have just brought back a 4 mth old female pup recently. Adorable little girl but there is one thing that is yucky about her... She has this tendency to eat up her own poo.... I feed her twice a day - once in the morning, once in the evening. I can't think of any reason why she would eat her own poo.... Is this sign of malnutrition or something is missing in her diet? Or just plain bad habit? Will this cause harm to her health? Any Yorkie parents out there experience this before? If so, any advice/tips on how can I stop this would be very much appreciated. |

| unfortunately poop eating is quite common.. my Oscar did it till he was about 5 months.. i just made sure i cleaned up immediately after he went potty.. he did grow out it thankfully.. you can try giving her a pineapple chunk with each meal, that is supposed to make the poop unappetizing. although you'd think it would be already |

| If you catch her eating it, I'd just shoo her away from it with an "uh oh" and stand there frowning at her over it until she backs off. Herd her into another room, pick her up, clean her mouth and put her away while you are cleaning it up. And pick up all poo as soon as you see it, of course. Eventually she will begin to anticipate that you are going to intervene and will catch herself before she eats it if she doesn't have ready access to it for too long. And after while, once more socialization has taken place, most dogs lose interest in poo-eating just from our OT reactions to them when we find they have eaten it!!! Most are smart enough to associate the two after a while. But it is fairly common for dogs to eat poo and in the wild dogs will eat any poo they can find to fill them up or meet any nutritional needs they may be lacking. Some say dogs in the wild ate/eat poo for other reasons related to pack dynamics or to save or remove the scent or their or other packs from a territory. But if the pineapple doesn't upset your dog's GI tract, try it too.
