so we had some plumbing probs at our house and the plumber came out wednesday and today then proceeds to tell me after my dogs are sniffing them that his new puppy was in the hospital tues and wed with PARVO so I guess i will get to see if TITERS work since my dogs are all titered as vet says incubation period is 5-7 days so i will let you know how that works out since he did not take off his shoes coming into my home and let my dogs sniff him - UNBELIEVEABLE - His rottweiler pup is from Michigan

Dang....how inconsiderate........I do hope everything turns out ok. I think I'd hand him the vet bill.

What the heck was he thinking ? He had to have been told by the vet that you can walk around with the virus

I saw this on another post and I thought it was odd as it is the dead of winter in Michigan right now. The ground is frozen solid...people don't usually worry about Parvo in the winter time...or I didn't growing up and living in Michigan. I know Parvo has changed with the new strains coming out but I am just not sure. I would be curious what other Michiganders think..

yeah so pissed off right now but I am thinking positive thoughts that all will be fine vet seems to think it should be fine as they are all current on titers - i guess i will know after this if titers really work lolllll

thanks yeah IDIOT and dh is on my s list too as he told dh on wednesday so as soon as he walked out the door i was like WTH were you thinking not saying anything to me and letting them out of the office to sniff on him - he is like duh sorry i did not know it was a big deal

The only thing that concerns me is that even if dogs are current with their Vaccines they can still contract Parvo.

he just got the puppy 9 weeks ago he said and he said it was shipped from michigan and a rottweiler - my heart dropped to my stomach since my dd is on immune suppressant drugs and i keep her indoors and very protective with her so i guess it goes to show you are never 100% protected even in your own home

Great just my luck man as if i have not been through enough worry with my 3 just makes me mad - I try so hard to do the right thing with them having health issues and then people throw their dogs outside with crap food on a chain and dog has no issues just does not seem fair but i have to think positive so i guess i can be the guinea pig for titers now lolllll

Oh gosh, I'd be so nervous!

I know we have had a parvo problem in MI, but I haven't heard/read much lately.

But then again, it is assumed that most of this stuff dies in the winter here which isn't always true. I have heard that quite a few dogs were testing heartworm positive when owners stopped the preventative in the winter. Now tons of vets strongly suggest doing preventatives year-round because not everything dies off...

And I'd trust the titers since they're high, but even vaccinated dogs can get it (different strains), so...

yeppers i am a nervous wreck - i emailed Jean Dodds as well but vet said not to stress - easy for her to say lolll

just want to be clear he did not bring pup to house so how contagious is it on his clothes and shoes is my biggest concern - he came to my house at 1:00 today and wednesday at 11:00 and his dog was in hospital on tuesday

My dee dee is a floor licker too gotta love that girl she is my biggest concern since she has a poor immune system since she is on temarilp and she is hypothyroid

If his shoes touched areas where his pup had been....that's a concern. Most people wouldn't know to have their shoes wiped with a clorox cloth. The clothes I don't think would be of great concern unless he held his pup and then one of your dogs.

yeah he showed me wear his dog scratched him up real bad so hope he washed his clothes as i could tell he was holding and playing with his dog mine were sniffing his shoes and pants and his hands - so bummed - he did not pick them up but he walked around my kitchen
