How much protein???? In my never ending search for a good food that my Maddie will actually eat, I am confused about the nutritional breakdown on the different "quality" foods. Protein levels vary from 23% all the way up to over 40%. My Maddie is 7lbs, 2 years old and no health issues. How do I know the correct amount of protein and fat to be looking for???

There really isn't a right or wrong amount of protein. As long as it congains high quality protein (animal source), the amount shouldn't be a big worry. Everybody has a their own preference as to how much protein they're most confortable feeding. I personally prefer the high-protein, grain-free diets, bc after all dogs are carnivores. So IMO, the more the marrier. But really there's nothing wrong with either lower or higher protein diet. Hope that helps. Choosing a food can be very difficult and confusing.

| This website helped me understand some of the many questions I had in regards to protein: The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare?

I had started feeding Sophie the Orijen Six Fish Formula, which she loved and it was high in protein. The bad part was that she couldn't handle that much protein. It caused her kidney levels and such to be high so I had to switch to Fromms, which she loves, too. That much protein isn't necessarily bad for our Yorkies, but some can't handle it.

I use the Salmon a la Veg. Sophie loved the 6 fish from Orijen so I decided to stay with the fish taste, plus it is good for her coat.
