The main reason I switched is because she turned a year old. I thought I should switch her to adult food. Was I wrong for doing that? |
There we go again! I started buying RC when I first bought Max, and after all the negative reviews I decided to switch to a better quality dry food, Wellness did not work,Chicken Soup, the one from Trilogy(forgot the name), NB, NV did a number on Sophie's stomach, TOW either, so we went back to RC, I guess is back to square one and start looking for something else. |

I've got to say, this is the first time I've ever called a company and spoke with someone who really seemed to understand what they were talking about. (I wish computer companies where this good.) I'm not an easy person to snow, and if she was able to put one over on me, she's good. She seemed more than happy to answer any of my questions, and I recommend that you call the 1.800.592.6687 number, and talk with them and voice your concerns, or questions. |

Here is the response I received from Royal Canin Dear Mary Thank you for taking the time to contact us. We appreciate all questions and comments from our customers. The percentage of protein on the new Yorkshire Terrier 28 has not changed it is still 28%. As for wheat gluten the reason that we have added that to the diet is because it is a 99% digestible protein source. Wheat gluten also offers your Yorkie a very important amino acid called glutamine. Glutamine helps preserve GI (gastrointestinal) health as it is the preferred fuel of small intestine mucosa. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Warm regards, Rachel Technical Services 800-592-6687 |
Thank you, I appreciate the response. I just took Coco to the vet 2 days ago and they recommended Royal Canine. I thought I was doing it right, but she still has diarrhea. I was only giving her a little bit with her old food. So my only alternative is to keep her on the puppy food. It's just crazy because the vet told me to do this, but I am failing. I don't want her to feel sick. She's even resorted to going potty where she is not supposed to go. |

Thank you for your response. I am so new at all of this! The only thing I can think of is I gave her the Heartguard chew yesterday, first time taking it. Maybe it was to much. She went to the vet for smelly ears. Turned out she has a bacteria in her ears. Giving her meds for that. Don't know if that would stress her out to the point where she would have diarrhea. Any suggestions on other foods? |

Did your vet remove the hair from her ear canal? Remember to use a good ear cleaner with a drying agent after you bathe her.....And yes, stress can cause dirreah.....go back to square one and go slowly. |
Coco had her birthday yesterday. She is one years old. Just gave her a bath, the diarrhea got everywhere. I do have a good ear cleaner along with the medication. Maybe I am just stressing her out. She didn't want to play as much as she usually does. I took the Royal Canine out of her bowl, feeding her the puppy food. Could this be from her heart medication? I am thinking it's the new food, but like I said I am new at this. Just want her to feel okay. |

Actually, I'm more suspicious of the meds she's taking for the ear problem, are they an antibiotic? Sometimes antibiotics can kill good bacteria as well as bad bacteria and this can lead to intestinal distress. |

Listen to her tummy for gurgling....also, if you can take her temp....normal is 101.2...if tummy is gurgling and temp is below 100 it's an indication that you are dealing with enteritis.....again, I strongly suggest that you get her into the vet. |

The ear medication are drops, not oral. She did not eat her food tonight, she is sleeping alot. No gurgling of the stomache. I will take her to the vet in the morning. So it is suggested that I cook her food, rice and chicken. She does have somewhat of an appetite, she didn't refuse a treat after her bath. What does it sound like this is? The heartguard or swicthing food? Like I said before, Coco has never had diarrhea before. |
