| Allergies & Benadryl Betty Boop has allergies. She sneezes and coughs and her eyes are always running and discoloring her hair around her eyes. Would a low dose of Benadryl each day be OK to give her? If so, how much would you recommend. I bought the Equate brand for children at Wal-Mart today. Thanks.

| Benedryl My Mia has been miserable with weezing this past week so we called her vet and she said to give her: .50 -- twice a day (this is on the tiny syringe)She got really drowzy the second day that we gave it to her so we decided that that was too much for her so we decreased it to: .20 -- twice a dayI think you need to go by weight - Mia weighs 5-6 pounds. Let me see if I can find a chart that they used to have here.

Haven't weighed Boopster lately, but she is probably around the 5 lb mark. I will start out on a lower dose and work my way up, too. I'm sorry to hear that your baby is also miserable. Hope she gets better soon.

| Gee Wizz Wow - I logged on this morning to see if I could find some info on spring allergies in dogs. Happy to know I'm not alone, but sad to see our little guys can get the same spring allergies as us. Sully is fine when we're in the house but as soon as I take him outside (starting a couple of days ago) he starts sneezing and wheezing and then when we come in he lays down and licks his paws for about 10 minutes. |

I've stopped using perfume because I'm afraid it will upset her allergies. Her eyes are still running even though I had her groomed yesterday to remove some of the hair around them. I've read that if WE have allergies that we need to take a shower and wash our hair before bed, and also to not go outdoors before 10 a.m. I know this is almost impossible for our furbabies. I bought Equate brand of allergy med. It's not the Benadryl brand so I guess it's not in the recall. I'm still going to call my vet and ask his opinion and go from there. Hope your little one can endure until this is over!

You can also wipe the eyes at night when allergies are acting up before bed using a cotton ball with Bausch & Lomb Saline Solution for Sensitive Eyes. Please make sure it is the saline solution marked for Sensitive Eyes and NOT the regular one or the contact lense cleaner. It is milder than the eye solution made for pets that are sold at pet supply stores. Also with allergies be careful with what you choose to bathe your baby with too.

Now I have to ask......what shampoo is recommended for dogs with allergies?

I use Dr Bonner's Baby Mild Liquid Soap. It's a castile/olive oil, fragrance free, chemical free, cleaning liquid that leaves her hair and skin moisturized. Great for sensitive skin and allergy having furbabies

| I didn't see the Equate brand on the recall. I wonder if the med is manufactured at one location and then distributed to different companies. Just a thought.
