I started the series for Maxwell on the day of the month I was born. 9th. So every month on the 9th, there you go. With my other dog it was tax day, so he got his on the 15th for 13 years. |
I usually give it the 27th of every month.( Toby's B-Day ) I have forgotten a couple of times for a few days. I like the cell phone reminder idea. |

They told me that one month missed from time to time is no biggie unless you are in a high risk area (like parts of Texas). I did THAT too often and then missed three months in a row! Like I said....I'm mad at myself |
Proheart 6 is back on the market. They changed something about it and it is said to be much safer. I still personally wouldn't even consider giving it to Ellie. |
I have to tape the pill to the calander or I will forget. Those little stickers just get lost in all the other event stickers and writing I have on our calander :) |
hmmm heartworm prevantative? I don't want to sound like a bad mom but I have never given that to Bailey before? Should I start now. is it bad that I have never had a dog who took monthly meds for this?? I feel horrible? |

Ok, I am a little FREAKED out now!! I took Chloe to the vet today to get a check since I just got her and they did a heartworm test and gave her a 6 month hearworm shot!!! Now I am reading the stuff that is on here about it!!!! |

I did some research and Alberta has to much extreme weather to carry it apperently...YAY I am relief...Thank you for your help!!:) Do we have heartworm in Canada? Yes. Heartworm occurs in warmer regions, where summer temperatures are high enough for the worm larvae to survive inside the carrier mosquitoes. The high-risk areas in Canada are southern Ontario, southern Quebec Manitoba, and the Okanagan in British Columbia. Heartworm is also found in most states in the US. Although it is not absolutely certain, it appears that heartworms are unable to survive at prevailing temperatures in Alberta and Saskatchewan. A few cases are diagnosed in these provinces every year, but to date they have all been dogs that have visited or lived in heartworm risk areas. |

Update :) Yay! NO heartworms!! The tests were negative!! Happy Dance!! :D They are on Iverhart Plus and I am taping the pills to a calendar, setting up with a reminder email service, programming it into outlook AND my blackberry!! That should do it!! (If I don't remember it now, then I need to have a full time nurse or something.) |

I count 30 days from the dose and mark it on my calendar. I get ones with big squares. Mine is in a blister pack but each one is not individually wrapped. Besides, my calendar would sure hang funny if I did. CALENDARS for all things. Flea med.s, last bath, vet visits, etc. |
I also have a reminder on my cell phone. |
Update Update***I just wanted to let everyone know that taping the actual pill containers to the calendar page has worked very well for me for over a year now. My technology has a tendency to change too often, and I forget to put it on the new phone, etc... I also thought this might remind some of those who give it seasonally to check your calendars. Heartworms can be deadly with our little ones. Take care! -Judy |
I put the heart stickies that come with the heart worm med on my calendar. |
I would be afraid of the pills falling off the calendar and on to the floor. What works for me is I do it the 1st of the month. Pay mortgage/give heart worm med. |

I have a separate calendar with all the due dates written into it. I have their heartguard/flea due dates, vax/exam due dates, and anything else relating to them. It's in their calendar from their insurance company. |

But now I get K9 Advantix online at 1800Petmeds.com. It costs less, 6 month $70.00, just as good quality wise and it has the worm meds in with it. Saves a lot of money not having to buy the Heartguard also. His heart worm checks are always fine. Just some FYI. |
I set an alert on my phone calendar so it reminds to give Bailey his. |
I use the phone for reminder and the calendar I hand write it in. I use the Advantage multi. When we had another dog, he was Heart guard and I used the stickers that come in the pack. |
I live only by the good graces of my Appointment Book! I use those sticky reminders that come with the medication in my Appointment Book and a yellow sticky note on the frig as the day nears. I have still gone over. |
We simply do it on the 1st of each month for all 3 dogs. |

Tibbe started his at the middle of the month so I can't get on the 1st of the month schedule without skipping 2 weeks. |
