All my dogs are chipped. When I had them, my cat and birds were chipped. I even know of koi (ornamental Japanese fish) that have been chipped. I think the needle scares the owner more than it does the dog ;) | If you read the sentence, after the portion of my post that you quoted in bold, you will see I didn't expect a conscious dog to undergo a tattoo procedure. If a dog were already under anesthetic, they would feel no more pain from the tattoo, than the spay/neuter procedure. And, of all the identification methods, IMO, registered tattoos would be a no fail (tags falling off, or easily removed), no scan necessary, right on the spot, way to identify your dog.
I am aware of breeders that do tattoo their puppies. But I'm not sure if they do adult dogs.
I've seen numerous dogs microchipped , the needle isn't small, and I'm sure to the dog it doesn't feel like a "quick gentle stick". From the reaction I've seen dogs have, I know microchipping isn't without pain.
Oh btw, Yes - I DO have a tattoo, but I don't think one is necessary to be qualified to determine that tattooing a dog could, should or shouldn't be a viable option. |
