please help! My Bella is sick again and I don't know what to do! She is 2 yrs. old and she is currently pregnant for the first time. Her last mating was on the 24th of October. Six days after her last mating, she started to vomit and have the runs. Also, she stopped eating. Her vomit was very yellow in color and sometimes foamy. On the evening of the second day, I noticed that the stool was very watery with some gelatin (like egg whites or runny snot) like consistency to it tinged with blood! I was so scared! I took her the very next morning to her vet where they did a complete work up. They took her blood and stool sample for testing and also gave her subcutaneous fluids, a penicillin G injection and prescription for Clavamox drops. The next day she was back to her usual bright self and her stool was back to normal in two days. Also, the tests came back all negative. She was perfectly healthy. Now, exactly one week after her Clavamox ended, she is having the same symptoms and not eating. She is drinking and I have put pedialite in with her water. I am so worried for her and her unborn puppies. What could be wrong with her? :( |
You need to take her back in to the vet. I hope it is just like morning sickness and it will pass. |
Thank you Jeanie for your reply. You're the only one to do so thus far. I have an appointment with her vet for tomorrow. Do pregnant fur moms often get morning sickness? |
Sorry to hear she is sick. I don't know anything about pregnant dogs but maybe you could call an ER vet and ask if it could be related to her pregnancy and post this is the Breeder Section too. |
I've heard that they can get morning siockness I don't know how common it is. |
Thank you! I'm not only a newbie to this site but also to the whole blogging thing! You could say that i am completely technically challenged. How do I put my question to the Breeders forum as well? Thanks for your help and concern for Bella. |
I just copied this and posted it in the Breeders section. Maybe someone else will have more info for you but if not... please get her to the vet first thing in the morning. Good Luck! |
Kalina had morning sickness at 3 weeks, but it was just a little foamy vomit and it didn't last more than a couple of days. The rest of the stuff you mentioned sound different from morning sickness and 6 days post tie seems early for morning sickness IMO - but I could be wrong. |
Thank you. I'm so worried for her and also puzzled why all her tests show nothing. Hopefully they can tell me something tomorrow. |
You said sick again. Was she sick prior to becoming pregnant? I hope she is alright. Elaine |
No. She got a clean bill of health prior to mating. She only got sick six days after her last mating. She mated three times, every other day. What do you think is wrong with her? Have any ideas? Thanks! |
Was the male checked? Perhaps he may of gave her something? |
Thanks for your reply. No, I did not have him officially checked but he is a proven stud from the breeder who I got Bella from. And besides, Bella got her blood and fecal tested when she became sick only 2 weeks ago! Do you have any ideas? |

I don't really know much about breeding just thought maybe if he had something he pay of passed along to her. I know your suppose to get dogs STD tested before mating. |
It is very common for pregnant bitches to show signs of morning sickness- not being as hungry, vomitting, etc., but Sookie mentioned how yours may be a little too early to be having. Honestly, IMO, I do think this "morning sickness" is also too premature and the other symptoms she's showing are pretty severe sounding. I don't think any of us are vets on YT, so your best bet would be to take her in ASAP and get her checked out. I had a dog that got really sick once, they never did find out the actual cause of her sickness- similar to yours actually (and no, she wasn't pregnant either), but the meds they gave her fixed her right up. Good luck, and hopefully the vet can make her all better. |
