YT Addict | confused??!!??!!?? I have been told, like forever, that human food was very bad for dogs. It messes up their tummies and causes loose stools. But, I have read on this site of many ppl cooking for their babies. I have read some of the recipes, and it they sound like stuff you could feed ppl. Am I just dense, or what??

| You are right that it can be bad and you are right that it can be good. There is a difference between table scraps and healthy people food. A lot of foods are not okay. There are many human foods that are just fine for dogs (after all, what do they put in dog food? Generally a very disgusting version of what we eat... Some just gives snacks and some actually give all human food. Hopefully those that do that are following a complete and balanced recipe from a nutritionist. It is important to be extremely careful though. One bite of something on the "no" list and cause some very serious issues.

| Hi there, I am new to this site (UK) and new to being owned by a yorkie boy called Max. He is 14 weeks today and I have had him two weeks. I have been looking for a food list of yes and no's and wonder if anyone has one they wouldn't mind sharing? What can he have and what can't he have that is classified as human food. He stole a little bite of pear yesterday lol. Sorry - didn't mean to hijack the thread! Coco |

| Hey Coco - I'm also very new at this so I'm learning as well. Here are some resources that I have found. A lot of them are repetitive but I like the fact that I see a lot of the same thing throughout various resources. Also, I picked a few up throughout the different ones. Here is a sticky list of toxic foods that I found helpful! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...oods-dogs.html Homemade Yorkie food and treats: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...od-treats.html Foods potentially poisonous for pets: Foods potentially poisonous to pets : The Humane Society of the United States Human foods that poison: Home-Human Foods that Poison Pets People foods that can kill your pet: ?People foods? that can kill your pet - TODAY Pets & Animals Toxic food for your dog: Toxic foods for your dog | PetDoc The ASPCA poison control center: The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (article) by Mr. Ed on AuthorsDen Foods you should not feed your dog: Foods You Should Not Feed Your Dog My vet personally doesn't suggest a raw diet because of poisoning that COULD possibly happen (It happened here on YT just a day or so ago) however several people do it. It's preference on that. There are contradicting stories on it and I'm a vegetarian anyhow so this option was too risky for me. ESPECIALLY after reading one of our YT members little baby got salmonella poisoning. Sorry, I got into research mode :P kk |
