| Walking How often do you all walk your Yorkies~? If I can I walk him in the mornings, but most of the time it is in the late afternoons or evenings. Should they walk twice a day even tho they have a fenced back yard~? It seems as tho I noticed that he really has to go potty when we do walk. But when we walk in the morning, it is just a quick dash of 15-20 mins and he wants to go home. But in the late afternoons or evenings, we walk 45 mins to 2+ hours, sometimes more. |

| I typically walk Jackson once a day for between 45 minutes-2 hours depending on how much time I have. It's generally an hour walk per day, a few days may be skipped here and there but that's our general schedule. I live on 3 acres of land, with no sidewalks/neighborhoods so I have to drive 5 minutes up the road to a neighborhood to walk him. We do not have a fenced in yard but he's on a 20 foot flexi lead out back to potty during the mornings and nights, etc. I also take him to a dog park around 3x a week. I do think it's important for them to go on walks, even if you have a fenced in yard, because it fulfills their primal instinct to walk as a "pack." I think it's good for them to get new smells, sights and experiences as well. When we visit over at my dad's house, he has a fenced in yard w/ their two dogs but we still try to take them all for a walk around the block still. It drains more of their energy, believe it or not, even if they've been running around out back all day. Plus, the walks benefit me as well, getting more exercise. Jackson LOVES to walk. He does tire quickly in the hotter weather but he could go on for a while. We walked for 2 hours the other day and he did fine. Was pooped when we got home though - which is the purpose!

| I/we try to get ours out at least 2x day now that I'm back to work full time. I used to take them out 4-6 times a day when I was home. If I or hubby get home at lunch time we take them out for the 3rd time of the day. We probably walk a total of 1 - 1 1/2 miles a day depending if we go 2 or 3 times a day. The vet told us it was good for them. We don't have a fenced in yard for them to run around. I do keep the door to the sunroom open during the day but it's just not the same as a yard.

| Thanks for your replies. When times spares, I do take him to the park and meet other dogs for socialization. Our neighborhood has a bunch of dogs, so I know that helps too for his socialization. I just thought that maybe he would go potty in the yard, which he usually does and not save it for the walks. Lately, I can't find his poops like I use to I thought maybe he likes me to pick it up since I rave on how he goes I don't know. Anyways, I thought after a dog eats within 20 mins he would go~? Or for another reason, why they should walk. |
