| At My Wits End W/This Food Thing! I know I'm not the only one on the planet, so I'm looking for solutions to Apple's MAJOR picky eating problems...I've brought home samples, and she seems to like them, so I buy the food...Two days later, she won't eat...I know people are going to say "wait her out", but she only weighs 4 1/2 lbs. and it worries me if she skips a day w/o eating, and she will skip a day...A groomer told me to put a little of the cream top organic yogurt on her food, and I did, and she liked that for a few days, then that didn't suit her...I wish I had time for home-cooking, but however will I get all the vitamins and minerals in her food? I just wish I could find something she liked...She did pretty good on Innova for quite some time, then she stopped and lost weight...Lately, we've tried Acana, Merricks Before Grain, Solid Gold, Wellness, (something) Select (?)and a couple others I can't think of...What's a mom to do Also, will shelters take open bags of food, I've got a bunch... |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Oh how I know how you feel! Nolee has always been a very picky eater. I tried everything from raw to home cooking and back to store bought! I have had him on Natural Balance for a while now, and it seems to be ok. There are some days he want eat, but I make sure not to give him treats or anything else. The only difference, Nolee is not so tiny. I just make sure he does drink his water when he does not eat! I hope you can find something soon! Maybe someone here will be able to help you! (I know the shelters here will not take opened food). Best of luck!

| I have 7 adult dogs ranging from 3 to 8 pounds. Some days the food is completely gone, other days it isbarely touched. I guess it depends on their level of activity. So I guess it is just a dog thing. I would imagine that dogs in the wild go for a day or two without eating. So I would not worry abut it. She won't starve. |

I also give them a small bit of canned pedigree in the morning. They always gobble that right down. About a tablespoon per dog. | |

| I think you've done about all you can but I also don't go with the wait them out theory most of the time. There are some dogs who do lose weight when they go through this and some do throw up bile from an empty stomach. This continuously happening is not good, so I think it is important to get them to eat regularly. If you want to homecook, you can have a nutritionist balance the recipe for you, but she may still walk away after a few days and that's $100 down the drain for the consult.

| I'm sorry I've been through that with my own picky dog. Have you tried the Nature's Variety yet? Jackson's still loving it. I wanna say it's been about 2 weeks?

YT 2000 Club Member | Ive been where you are many, MANY times. The only foods that my dogs will eat willing is the grocery store stuff. (nutrish, science diet, and pedigree). However, because they have issues with the corn and stuff in those foods I am on the contious hunt for a food they will eat willingly, that I can afford, and that I can easily find. Right now they are on Merrick.. they like it and seem to be doing well on it. They poop twice a day, they dont have that doggy ordor anymore (they get when they eat corn) they arent scratching anymore and thier coats look good. Merricks offer a ton of different varities of canned food and my dogs have liked most of them. You can order 1 pound samples of dry online, but you have to order 25.00 dollars worth of stuff (canned, dry, treats etc) and the shipping is free. Im not sure where you can find it in the store but none of my local feed stores sell it. So I order a bunch of sample bags and a few cans online every 2 weeks or so. Good luck with your search, I know how frustrating it can be.

| If you buy from Petco they will take the food back. Otherwise, you are correct that the shelter will take a donation.

| Lol, yeah, it's the duck & turkey flavor. Now that's not to say Apple will enjoy it quite as much but I will hope for you!! I always remember getting so disapointed when I'd read on here "you gotta try this food, my picky eater loves it! etc etc" and then Jackson would turn his nose up to it, ha.

| Did you save the receipts? Usually the store will take them back. |

| My two yorkies, Koltrane (4lbs) and Karmy (6lbs), as well as my son's husky, Saphire (40+lbs), can be picky eatters at times. On days they choose not to eat, I give each of them a couple tablespoons of cottage cheese around dinner time and they LOVE IT!!! |

YT Addict | I really think every Yorkie does that. I had the same problem. But my dogs are smaller than yours. my largest at a year and 3 months is 3.2 pounds. if she likes the sample she likes the food they just get bored of it. my dogs did it to me all the time.and i wanted to pull my hair out. Just stop fussing over it so much and she will eat. a healthy dog will not starve itself. if your worried about hypoglycemia give her nutracal if she wont eat. don't give her any special food because she will never eat her dog food and will wait it out because she knows you will break and give her some yummy people food or something else that's different. They are smart. She may also just not be that hungry because if she was starving she will eat. My trick is i have their normal dry dog food and i buy sample bags of a different dog food and mix a small amount in with their normal dog food for the taste changes up a bit. I feed EVO they have 2 different flavors so i switch that up for them. then i mix in a bit of Acana dog food they have small sample bags you can buy and they have three different flavors that i know of and i mix a small amount in with there EVO everyday a different flavor everyday. i also feed primal raw and i mix it in with the EVO like 3 times a week and my dogs love to eat now i never have a problem. and i have 4 very small very picky eaters. but you need to be firm she will be fine let her go a day without eating and if she doesn't eat just give her nutracal if your worried. because she will keep doing this to you. believe me i know what your going through. |
