Donating YT 500 Club Member | Bully Stick Question Taffy loves loves loves bully sticks. However, little Miss Priss will not return to one she's already "used"... Trouble is, she only chews/uses one for one night. Is there any way any of you know to "refresh" a barely chewed bully stick? She doesn't even turn it around and chew the other end! I can't imagine (errr...hmmmm) who got her started thinking she needed a new one...LOL Your Honor, in my defense, I got tired of all these barely chewed sticks littering the house. They are not the most pleasant thing to step on especially when barefoot... (Did I mention how PAINFUL they are to step on when barefoot?) Soooooo...I probably started this by throwing them away and then gave a new one but I had no idea at the time that they were going to be this big a hit! Turns out she's rather chew a bully stick than my computer manual, important business cards, twenty dollar bills, and "almost" more than a paper napkin. Who'd have thought? However, when she's on her chewing rampage (generally when we're too tired from playing puppy games) only a NEW bully stick will lure her away from contraband. |

| That's hilarious! Maxwell was the same way, so I put the used ones in a baggie in the freezer; somehow it fools him to thinking he's got a brand new one. That's also funny you call it "contraband". Maxwell knows he gets a treat if he drops "contraband" -- he goes looking for contraband, when the house is clean, he'll go in the trash can so he can bring me some "contraband" -- he loves that word. | Can you cut off the end she chewed on? Try to trick her into thinking it's a new one? I don't know what else to suggest. Sorry

| Laci , does/ did the same thing.. I run them under hot water... I think that makes them " smell" better, if all else fails I put a tiny tiny wipe of peanut butter on it...

LOL...my husband is the one who started the "contraband" terminology. It sure does fit the description though, doesn't it? Taffy usually manages to do something every day that just cracks us up. It's true she did chew up my new computer manual today but I was just grateful it wasn't the new computer. However, the cutest/sweetest thing she did today that just cracked us up was while we were watching football. We tend to holler and scream and carry on as though we were actually there. She jumped up in my lap a couple of times when I shouted "Woo Hoo" but the third time, she brought me one of her toys to console me. We think she thinks I was sick or hurting...LOL (She'd laid toys at my feet before to get me to play with her but she had never brought one up to my lap. It was truly an unselfish sacrifice because my girl LOVES her toys!)

None of mine stink they just have a scent to them... I buy all my treats from a organic all natural dog shoppe... Anyways it works...

| This is what I do as well. My boy primarily chews on the ends of the sticks so I just cut off the ends when they get too slimy. He thinks they are brand new. The hot water works as well, because it makes them stink more which of course he loves.

| I don't wet it before putting it in the freezer, it's already a bit gooey from when he left it for me to step on. |

Well, I guess this is where I confess I still have a childhood aversion of drinking water gotten from the bathroom tap. I still think of it as "bathroom water..." (I know...I know...college degrees and all and I still can't shake that quirk. My husband thinks it's crazy, too.) Anyway, ugh....what do I cut it with? I'm assuming I'll have to get a "dedicated" knife that I only use on the bully sticks but what I'm wondering is if a knife will cut through them. Guess I just figured it would take a little hacksaw... Will a knife work? Granted, I've never tried it but that's what I gathered from stepping on the things barefoot...they feel like a tree's limb or petrified wood...almost like a rock.

| i don't have an issue with bully sticks, Sadie loves them all the darn time. but then again she chews on them for a long time all day and then overnight they solidify again and she starts over, she likes the chewy part to eat i guess, but be careful that chewy stuff sticks in their teeth and on the roof of their mouths |

| I think some of those garden sheers might work to cut the edges off. That would have to be a very strong knife to cut through a bully stick! I have the opposite problem - my girls always want the "used" bully sticks. Rory is a faster chewer than Lane, so they don't disappear at the same rate. I bring out a new bully stick, and they both want the one that was already started. I am NOT up for "starting" one myself.
