My vet insists on the lepto also but it doesnt even cover all the strains of lepto plus mine are never in areas to get lepto so I think getting the shot is useless and Im going to tell my vet not to give it or Im finding a new vet. And I really like my vet. Rachel I do think you got way too many shots in one day. Your lucky Sadie didnt have a reaction. |

When Piper had her puppy vaccinations my vet spread them out over a couple of months. He doesn't give Lepto, Corona and doesn't recommend Lyme to these small babies. Piper is 16 months, weighs 5.5lbs., and she has to have all her boosters. Again he'll spread out the vaccinations. This week she had Rabies and blood test done for Heartworm and Lyme. In 2 more weeks she'll get her DHLPP and 2 weeks later her Bordetella booster. |
well i've posted a new thread about how well our weekend went. Sadie seemed herself and played a lot and had a really good weekend. next time we go i'm going to demand that they split up the shots because i just got too nervous. i WILL NOT let them do rabies with anything else that's for sure...too many people have issues with it. as far as the corona and lepto shots, she's outside in the country eating goodness knows what sometimes and i think it's better to go ahead and make sure she is protected against those as much as possible. it's very different in MO than CA or FL, i've read the vaccinations posts from the Jean guy, but that's for CA, it's an entirely different world here. anyways, praise God she's okay so far and pray she keeps doing well!! :) i love my little rat doggie |

And Dr. Dodd's Vax Schedule is not just for CA, it's for anywhere - she just mentions CA, as well as other states too for specific reasons/examples. |
Rachel, just do a Google search about Corona and you will find out it is dangerous and unnecessary. A Texas veterinarian filed a lawsuit about giving dangerous vaccines: Recommending, administering, and charging for Canine Corona vaccinations for adult dogs is fraud by misrepresentation, fraud by silence, theft by deception, and undue influence given the literature that states: 1. Dogs over eight weeks of age are not susceptible to canine corona virus disease. Disease produced by canine corona virus has never been demonstrated in adult dogs. Dogs over eight weeks of age that are immunized against canine parvovirus will not develop symptoms of canine corona virus disease. Addition of an unnecessary antigen to the vaccination protocol will result in a lesser immunity to the important diseases like parvovirus and distemper, and increase the risk of adverse reactions. 2. Immunologists doubt that Canine corona virus vaccine works, as it would require secretory mucosal IgA antibodies to protect against corona virus and a parenteral vaccine does not accomplish this very well. Twenty-two Schools of Veterinary Medicine including Texas A&M University do not recommend canine corona virus vaccine. 3. Gastroenteroligists at Schools of Veterinary Medicine including Dr Michael Willard at Texas A&M University have stated that they have only seen one case of corona virus disease in a dog in ten years. Texas Vet sues due to over vaccination of dogs and cats Do you take Sadie to Banfield? They are notorious for overvaccinating. |
Good Info Thanks to everyone that posted on this, I learned alot today! |
Great that she did okay, but it was not okay to give that many at once. Not only could it have seriously hurt her, giving so many can negate an immune response causing them to be ineffective. I can't in good conscious tell you that it was okay to do this because it wasn't and you knew to be nervous. So why did you let the vet do it? A couple of those vaccines are totally unnecessary, one of them should be given to a Yorkie separately if they HAVE to have it and a pup certainly should not get nine vaccines in one day...ever. |

i'll call them today and tell them no more Corona PERIOD. and tell them to make sure that they break up her shots into less at one time and that rabies is given seperate from all the other ones. i can't go to another vet now because of the wellness plan which is great for us, it's much cheaper and saving lots of money but i do understand the concerns for the nationwide Banfield complaints...our banfield does a pretty good job with pet and i trust Dr. Lowry as the leader and the surgical doctor there. but yes i need to take a stand and ask that they follow MY OWN needs and not their own ideas of what's good for Sadie. |
Glad your furbaby is ok. I don't do lepto on mine either. I recommend reading as much as you can about vaccines ... I don't doubt there is a link between them and the many problems some yorkies experience, pancreatitis, etc. Too Many Dog Shots: Eliminate Unnecessary Vaccines and Improve Health | Truth4Dogs |
