VPI pet insurance? my dog was admitted to the hospital twice since last september for throwing blood; they suspect gastritis. anyway i have spent thousands of dollars on her in the hospital. i do have the banfield insurance which i use for vet visits and vaccination; however i am concerned that i wont be able to afford another emergency hospital visit. so i was looking the VPI pet insurance Dog Insurance and i am confused of which plan to choose. i don't want to pay a large amount of money monthly; however i do want to have the basics for whenever she needs to be admitted to the hospital. can anyone recommend or share if they have the VPI insurance. which plan should i get and would this insurance work in new jersey at any vet or any hospital? thanks much |
I don't have pet insurance but I'm worried that that would be a pre-existing illness. Hopefully someone else will have a better answer for you :) |
I have VPI for Buddy. I was very pleased with the refund after using it for the first time after three years of having it. I have the Superior Plan. It's $28.17 a month. We live in NY. There is a deductable of $50.00 per incident. If the treatment for one injury goes onto several visits they will continue to refund you without another deductable. It does not pay for yearly office visits, shots, flea meds etc. I wanted it for emergencies only. I am happy with it. Refund came within 3 wks. |
Yup sorry to say you now have a pre-exisiting condition. Trust me I wish I would have gotten insurance too since Izzy has been sick 4 times since last November and we spent thousands on her to save her. Unless there is an insurance company out there that takes pre-existing I say we are out of luck on this one. Only thing is that most vets now have that pet credit card and I can't think of the name of it but you can apply at your vet's office and make monthly payments next time that happens. Oh and so sorry to hear about your baby I know how you feel. Izzy has pancreatitis/SIBO/IBD.:( |

I am looking into PetPlan Insurance myself...not sure how it ranks against VPI. |

Why does your baby get the diareaha and vomit so much? I'm not sure if this would be considered pre-existing. That could be diet based as well. I would think kidney problems, L/P etc would be. You have nothing to loose, apply and find out. I would. |

I did alot of research on insurances before I decided to go with PetPlan. They cover ALOT of stuff, most of which other insurances do not cover. Be wary of VPI they have a lot of exclusions - you have to read the fine print. Embrace was my second choice and they are cheaper but I went with PetPlan because I could choose the copay/reimbursement level that I wanted and also the coverage is higher overall. Not sure if they would cover your baby with the gastritis now though because that would be a pre-exsiting condition unless she goes to the hopsital for an unrelated condition. Although basically anything directly resulting from gastritis would not be covered now. |

But its worth checking out anyway, because she was diagnosed officially right? I would def ask them (their CS is great over the phone). Also, you never know, its good to have in case of emergences. HTH! |
When my mom insured her chi with VPI she had a pre-existiing condition. I believe she had to go a full year with no vet visits pertaining to that. However, VPI often considers an illness a pre-existing condition from one policy year to the next, even if coverage was continuous; think cancer diagnosis in December, policy renewal in January, and then that cancer being pre-existing. I chose left VPI for Embrace for that reason. |

I chose the silver plan for now cause Maxi is still a puppy but I think when he gets older, I will change to the highest one. |
