How many of you free feed I was wondering if you free feed your babies. We have 2 schnauzers and 2 yorkies. Its not the schnauzers I worry about but I want food there if the yorkies need it. Now we have one (Kayla) that is a little chubalub. I read an article the other day that said never free feed a yorkie. I feed them Innovia and even the baby (4mo.old) is on Royal Cannine 33. I feed them all a can split 3 ways of Innovia wet food at nite. The baby is on puppy Innovia wet. He gets about a tablesoon. I am just worried because I don't want Kayla to gain anymore but I am always concerned about hypoglecmia. How do you feed???? |
I never free feed...I wouldn't know who ate how much. |
I free feed Murfee but he is an only child. |
I have four and two of them are on a special diet and the puppy needs puppy food so I can't free feed. The puppy is the only one who has hard food in his playpen all the time. Then I feed him every three hours soft food. The bigger guys all eat their special diet twice a day and I give them some type of snack at lunch time (carrots, apples etc). They also all love their cookies.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I don't free feed at all, i don't think i have ever done that! Fiona gets feed twice a day, and her weight is perfect, well to me it is! consult with your vet!? |
I have always left a bowl of dry kibble out for my Bella. But she also is fed one meal a day of wet food. She is 5.7 lbs at 14months and a great portion of that is her hair. Her vet said that she is the perfect weight for her size. But in your case, I would consult your vet if your are concerned about weight gain. I hope this helps :) |
I free feed four and no weight issues. How much does Kayla weigh? After the 2 pound mark you don't usually see hypo episodes. |
Denzel is a only child and i free feed him two meals a day. |
I have 4 and free feed. I don't have "gobblers" and have never had a problem with weight. I do feed them all a home cooked meal for their dinner meal and they "nibble" on the kibble throughout the day. I feed them Health Extension small bites. I also keep water out. Works for me, works for them. They are all good weights for their builds. Do what works for you. After checking with your weight, and you want to try it, go for it.... Make changes accordingly. If you know your babies, you'll know what's best for them..;) Good Luck!! Let us know how you make out! |
I do, always have and mine dont have weight problems |
I free feed, but Pixel is my only baby, so I can keep track what he is eating. Also, he isn't really that into food, so he doesn't overeat. In fact, I still have to try and "remind" him to eat sometimes. He's not overweight at all. |
Alfie is a freefeeder He only eats what he wants and like us some things he dont like and says no, he is a sensible freefeder otherwise I would control him. He is a cracking man and I will not control him unless i have to |
I do. I keep Eukanuba small breed out with a bowl of water all the time. I check it and know, pretty well, who eats what. Have two furbabies. |
I free feed my Yorkie and my English Cocker Spaniel. When I see my 9 wk Maltese go to the dog food bowl, I call her over and feed her puppy food. I can't just leave the puppy food out because the English Cocker would chow it all down. |
I free feed the pups and monitor there weight to make sure each is gaining weight. I like my pups to know that they always have food available and it seems they are more at ease with food because they know they have it. My roommate feeds her dog twice a day (she use to free feed) and it always seems like they are starving. I think they eat more than they would if they were free fed. I know that if you are switching from scheduled meals to free feed you would do it slowly as some dogs will just gobble it up and make themselves sick. |
