| Feeling helpless with fleas Okay, so Mya and I just moved to an area that is very wooded and nature-y....she is on k9-advantix but it doesn't seem to be fullproof anymore since we've moved here! Is there a supplimental thing I can give her for this bad flea season in this area??? I just don't know what to do I feel helpless...I mean she isn't infested, but she keeps getting 1 or 2 sigh when we go outside...

| Oh, and should the k9 advantix kill them eventually even if they do get on her initially?

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I have never used those expensive flea preventative programs but I can tell you what I use that works. We always bought Hartz at the grocery store and I have yet to see a flea on Apple (my sammy) and she is outside a lot for exercise. It is inexpensive and works great. Even for a thick coat of hair like hers.

| I am living at my parents house for the summer while I'm on college break and they live in an especially wooded area, so believe me when I say I can understand exactly where you are coming from!!! I also have the Hartz flee shampoo, which seems to be working well, but you also want to make sure you are keeping your pup up to date on the Frontline/Advantix and their heartworm meds if they are especially flea prone. Also, you may want to be prepared with a few flea bombs for inside your home, because if your pup was to bring them inside, that's when things get nasty and out of control. If she gets a few on her when you take her outside, don't worry, like the other poster said, they will soon respond to the meds you are giving her.

| Please be careful and watch your baby carefully when using the Hartz. It has actually made some dogs very sick and some have died using it! I am using Revolution on my Tessa and it is working great! You can get it from the Vet or one of the many on-line pet stores. |

| Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't I read some very negative things about Hartz products.... something about it being toxic to these little ones?? Tatum is on Sentinel (flea and heartworm prevention) and also Comfortis (for fleas). One on the 1st, the other on the 15th. This has worked great for us and we have serious flea issues in our area.

| I found a dead flea in my bed this morning. I am assuming that it came from Ruby. I use Frontline Plus. I guess because the flea was dead that means the medicine is working. I have heard many people say that you should rotate flea medicines so the dog doesn't build up an immunity to it. I have not had that problem with my other dogs who have been on K9 Advantix for years. We have used the Hartz flea medicine on our outdoor cats and it seems to work well for them. |

| I was debating getting her on sentinel, and I think this put me over the edge. It's worth the money to me if it works.

peppermint oil and water to repel fleas... Morning All!! I started this thread the other day and have the amount of oil to water ratio.....My Mom contacted a Holistic Vet and asked about a holistic pet shampoo that would help with fleas, mosquitoes, ticks and any other typed of biting insects. This vet told her NOT to go buy anything special....He told her to mix peppermint oil with water (in a spray bottle)....spray and towel then wipe it over the animal...under the neck, legs, belly...he said this will repel all that I mentioned above...We are going to Maine on Wednesday and taking the furgirls with us (of course!)..The mosquitoes there are HORRIBLE!! I am going to try this up in Maine...will let you all know how it works! 15 drops of peppermint oil 1 cup of water put in a spray bottle, shake well and spray on a rag then wipe them down making sure to get their bellies and under legs...then the rest of the body...My Mom is in Maine and has been using this...Callie hasn't had 1 flea or tick on her and the mosquito bite her....we are all going up there tomorrow and staying until Saturday...I plan on trying it...(although the girls don't have fleas) it also repels other biting insects...As I said before...My Mom spoke with a holistic vet and this is what he told her to do...Seems to be working for her!! I say GO THE NATURAL ROUTE!! LEAVE THE CHEMICALS ALONE!!! ___

If there was a problem, it must be fixed now because I haven't had any problems with it and I have been using if for years but only at half the dose and it works great for my larger dog. It worked great on my Persian until he passed away at an old age last year. I now have Sphyns so no need for it as they have no fur.

| Back when I had my yorkipoo we got a major flea problem. I had the house sprayed by professionals and her on treatment and they just would NOT go away. With that and her potty training just not working out I rehomed her, had the house sprayed AGAIN and still nothing so we moved outta there! |

http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...ck.html?cat=53 HartzVictims.org - One More Victim is One Too Many I bought a Petsmart flea medicine since I figured it would be fine. I looked it up online and there were so many stories of dogs dying, having seizures, or other reactions. I immediately washed it off and purchased Advantage. I could never put my dog at risk like that.

| My Yorkie, Lexie, had a terrible flea problem last summer. I found the perfect inexpensive answer to the problem. Put a little garlic powder or garlic oil in your dog's food. Fleas and Tic can't stand the smell of garlic and your pet will no longer have a problem with fleas. |

| Fleas I use Comfortis. It is a pill given once a month. You have to get it from a vet, but it sure does the job. |

Sounds like a very inexpensive way to deal with fleas and we have garlic all the time in the fridge. Thanks
