When to start feeding once a day????? |

Not being sarcastic, but would you only like one meal a day. |
I feed twice a day. I don't believe in feeding only once a day. When Marcel was a puppy - he was a tiny, so I fed him 4x a day, then 3x a day until he was about 10 mths old - then moved to 2x day. If your pup has ever had hypoglycemia and still does, then you need approach this differently. |

I free feed my dogs, however I still offer canned food sometimes twice a day depending on how much dry that they have eaten. I agree they have small stomachs and need to eat often. Puppies under 6 months of age, NEED to be fed at least 3 times day and I do believe your pup still falls in that catergory. If it is too much of an inconvience to feed your pup more than once a day (because of work or whatever) then I suggest you free feed so you know that he is getting all he needs. |
I don't think feeding once a day is a good thing. My girls get fed 2x a day. |
I take the day's food allotment and spread it over three small meals throughout the day Feeding multiple times per day should not be misconstrued with feeding an increased quantity |
hmm do you like to eat once a day?? hehehe I free-feed my girls too! But I firmly believe dogs should be fed twice a day...morning and evening! |
I wouldnt feed once a day only with a young pup. I know you are worried about him getting too big but you shouldnt limit his food because he is not overweight just a growing puppy |

Im kind of surprised you would ask this since you spend alot of time on this board... almost everyday someone post about the importance of puppies and adults having access to food more then 1 time a day???? |
Buster & Bailey are fed twice a day (morning & night). We used to feed them 3x/day but around 5mths old they lost interest in eating at lunchtime, so we switched to 2x/day. I usually give them a treat when I go to back to work from my lunchbreak. My friend's 20 pound dog gets fed once a day, but I don't think my pups could handle that - they're tummies are too tiny. I think it all depends on the size of your dog & also what they are telling you. |
I feed Alfie twice a day and Rosie three, however she has recently begun to refuse one of those meals. Sometimes she will just pick at her breakfast- this is the one she usually refuses- or if given something she really likes at breakfast she'll refuse her lunch, but will always eat her dinner. I'll continue to offer 3 for about another month, but I believe nature knows best. Of course the problem is stopping Alfie trying to eat what Rosie doesn't, now he'll eat anything. |
lexi gets fed twice a day also.. |
I was feeding Harley 3 times a day but he lost interest at lunch so he has cut back to 2 times a day. Sometimes he is not hungry when I feed him in the morning but I leave it there for him to have throughout the day. I think they at least need to be fed twice a day. |
Well sometimes they just won't eat twice or more a day! I have been trying to get Charley to eat more than once per day for 3 months and NOPE! She just won't. I tried only giving her a little in the morning NOPE she will hold out until late evening to eat. It's retarded. I wish she would eat more than once.. But how do I force her! I have tried many foods, many toppings and NOPE! So, my quess for now is some just don't want to eat more than once per day. But I will keep trying to get Charley to eat twice a day! Some days when I work she will not eat until I get home.... 9pm.. like as if she waits until then to eat. I feel bad and I wish she would eat differently but we are working on finding something that works... GOOD LUCK! :) |
