Doesn't like RAW!?! Has anybody had experience with their baby NOT liking Raw? I got some NV medallions, both Venison and Lamb, but she won't eat it...either kind! :( :( I'd really like to try this diet, and honestly, I didn't think I would EVER have this problem. Any suggestions? |
I can't say I've ever had this problem. Are you giving the medallions to her whole or seperating them into small bites? Colby Tate will not eat his unless I break it into very TINY peices for him. Have you tried the parmesan cheese on top trick? Has she actually tasted it yet, or is she refusing to even try it? |

I really think she'll love it if we can just get her to try it. What has she been eating? I will admit that none of my guys are very fond of the lamb, but they will eat it. They go crazy over the venison, though. |

Do you put fresh or dried Parmesan on the top? |
Mine don't really like the lamb or the venison...they love the rabbit of course it is the most expensive. I have to take the chill out of it to get mine to eat...I spoil them. I sometimes will put them in the microwave for 7 seconds if I'm in a hurry. If not, I put them in a ziplock bag in some warm water for about 5 min. Then I mash it up into smaller sizes for Myah, Chloe' will scarf it down in one big gulp if I don't break it up. I also use the patties not the medallions. When feeding 2, it is more cost effective. |
I've just used the dried parmesan but fresh might be more attractive. Does she have a favorite treat (yorkie yummies, Zuke's, etc) that you could smear a tiny bit of the raw on and trick her into tasting it? Like Julie1760, mine all really prefer the rabbit. But, I quit feeding raw rabbit because the rabbit meat in NV's raw comes from China (for some reason the rabbit in their kibble does NOT come from China so I do still feed that). I've never warmed the raw up before feeding (never had to). But, maybe she is just put off by the coldness. If you decide to try warming, Julie gives great instructions for doing so - you don't want to heat it so much that it killls the good enzymes. |
Thank you!! :D I'll have to try warming it up (Thanks Julie for and instructions) and topping with parmesan. Evanger's chicken jerky is her favorite treat, so I might cruble a piece and stick it in there too. :p |
Good luck!! Please let us know if any of these tricks work. If not, maybe we can come up with something else. You and your baby need to try the raw experience - we love it!! :) |
Good luck and let us know what works for you. I don't feed the rabbit either as it has pork in it....Mine also love the chicken and the beef. As far as the heating of it goes...make sure if you use the microwave...just try a few seconds...depending on the power of your microwave. You don't want to cook it. Mine have eaten it cooked on the edges but now we got the timing down it doesn't happen anymore. I like the warm water the best...then I can mush it up in the bag and dump it on the plate. Myah only eats it off a plate...not a bowl, crazy little dog. |
She still refuses. I put half a medallion in a baggie and placed it in warm water for 5 min to warm it up. I put it on a plate and mashed it up, put her favorite treat mixed in, and topped it with dried parmesan cheese. I even got her 'big sis' to stand by to add a little competition. (which usually makes her eat ANYTHING) :p She still refused to touch it. :( So I put a tiny bit on my finger and stuck it in her mouth. She shook her head around and promply spit it out. Maybe I could try giving her an itty bitty amount with her cottage cheese? I'm hoping I can get her used to it and slowly increase until she's eating solely raw. :xfingers: |
Cottage cheese would be good. Do you have any chicken you could boil and chop up mixed with raw? That would be my next step after the cottage cheese. Does she like to be sneaky? With Chelsea if I pretend to leave the room and act uninterested, she'll creep up to (toy/medicine/treat/etc.) and snatch it up and run off. It's like a little game - she has to STEAL it or else she doesn't want it. |

She still refused, even with it mixed in with cottage cheese and chx. I'll try again tomorrow AM when she'll be more hungry. |
