1st Heat cycle questions I'm almost positive my almost 1 yr old Yorkie is about to start her heat cycle and I know nothing about this ! We aren't planning on breeding Baci our youngest, but haven't found an affordable place here that we trust to get her spade at (cause she's small and I'm so nervous about her having surgeries after a friends Yorkie passed in dental surgery.) I should have done it sooner but now it's too late. Lately, she walks funny with her back legs seeming tense and licks a lot and is starting to swell in her vuvla. BUT here's the problem: She has had an uncontrollable bladder which has never been a problem before. Her pee is clear like water and a lot of it. She has peed in her crate on herself when she was just taken out and pee'd 15 minutes prior. She peed on my husband !! She has always been able to hold her bladder very well ! Is this a system of heat?? Or should I be worried? And how do I handle the heat cycle? Do I bathe her daily? I need all the info I can get .I've tried google but I'd like Yorkie Specific advice.

possibly a UTI?? Coco had 1 heat cycle before I got her spayed, and never had an incontinent issue while in heat. She may be licking herself because of the discharge. I recommend getting her underwear and buying panty liners..cause when she bleeds, it will get everywhere. Good luck!! Also hurry up and get her spayed, waiting increases her risks for cancer. I was the same way and didn't trust any vets..but just ask around, or google ratings for vet clinics.

Seem like she may have a UTI if she is peeing alot and often. The other things you have mentioned sounds like she is coming into heat, I buy premie diapers and put those on at night time because that seems to be the only time she isn't cleaning herself and gets messy, during the day Stormy hardly bleeds, and if she does she cleans her self up.

I've heard its best to wait til she is finished with her heat, my mom had our springer spaniel spayed during her heat and she got an infection after. I would say wait about 4-6 weeks after just to be safe! | |

It sounds to me like you have 2 things going on at once. Coming into her first heat and a possible UTI. I'd have her checked by a vet.

i agree, have the vet check her out..i know some vets will perform the surgery while they are in heat, but it is not recommended, since she could bleed out. If i remember correctly my vet told me the blood vessels are more smaller making it harder to perform the surgery. I was told to wait 2-3 mts after they are out of heat...sounds like your lil one will probably start to bleed soon, maybe in a few weeks??

She's stopped the peeing thing and now she's back to normal except the licking ... I think she's fine but no idea about the heat cycle. I think I'm just gonna wait till after her first one to get her spade cause I don't want to mess anything up by doing it during .
