| Should I change their food? Sorry I know I only have one yorkie, but I can't seem to find a great board like this one for our Bull Terrier. lol I decided to put both dogs on the same food so I only have to buy one large bag instead of two different types, and because I don't know how I will keep them each away from each others food. So we are on the Blue Buffalo food, which I love and has been the only food Stormy has been eating for a long period of time. I don't think this food is working for our bullie, she is pretty gassy and it REALLY smells bad lol. She is also pooping alot, I would assume alot sometimes 3 or 4 a day, they are firm poops. And she is itchy as heck! Stormy does itch some what but maybe I don't notice as much, she itches her paws a bit and her back side near her tail. This is the same spot the bullie is itching, on her back towards the tail. She will lay on her back and cry out because she has got an itch! I was thinking of picking up a new bag of food for them both this week so we can switch them over slowly. Our bullie came to us on DIAMOND puppy food!! I was ticked off, they didn't send any with her so she had the runs for a few days and lots and lots of gas. We have had her for almost a month now and I hate to switch her again but maybe they are itchy from the food? Stormy doesn't get gas and poops about twice a day, firm ones. I was thinking of maybe giving Wellness another try for both of them. I bought the big bag of blue for $40 and it last me almost a month. I'd really like to have them on the same food, quality wise. My hubby isn't so into "food" and health as me when it comes to our pets so he could care less, the bullie is HIS dog but I want her to be healthy as well. Now could this itch be from something else as well? I have been washing Stormy in baby shampoo since I got her and my hubby gave the bullie a bath in it as well so could it be that shampoo that is STILL itching them? Sorry this is so long. I am going to be ordering some Minksheen for Stormy but no clue what kind of shampoo would be good for the bullie. |

| Never used Blue Buffalo food, HOWEVER, I've heard baby shampoo can really irritate dogs skin so maybe that's the issue!

| I have heard diamond is not a very good food. I would try the wellness again.

| Also comb above their tails with a flea comb to make sure they don't have fleas that are making the itchy. The back at the base of the tail is a very common site for fleas and flea dirt.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i agree with teh last two posters. 1) it could be the baby shampoo. its irritating to the skin and you need to make sure you rinse all of it off or it will itch more. Try getting a gentle dog shampoo to wash them with like something by espree or biogroom. oatmeal will sooth the itches. 2) the base of the tail/back area is a common flea spot. Look really well thru their fur to see if you see fleas or flea dirt. are they on flea prevention? 3) if both 1 and 2 are ruled out then i would change the food. i feed wellness to my yorkie and my cats. never had any problems.

| We don't have flea problems around here too often, I've checked for fleas and there isn't any that I see. They do get a bit of dandruff, the bullie more then the yorkie. I don't have them on any kind of flea preventative just because I don't want to use chemicals and once again don't see any fleas. Never have had a problem in this area. I would like to get something natural to use just in case. I will buy some new shampoo and give it a try and if they are still itchy we will switch the food then. Thank you for the advice!! |

| We have 5 dogs and are feeding them all Nature's Variety Prairie chicken and brown rice dry dog food. Our dogs range from a 12 yr old German Shepherd/Chow mix to a 4 month old Yorkie puppy and they all eat this food and love it. We have only been using it for a short time but there was no issues during transition and no gas. Our Cocker Spaniel had bad gas on ANY and EVERY Diamond manufactured food that we ever tried. No gas on the NV though. They also have a 'try it' offer where you can get a free 5 lb bag with the purchase of any size bag. |

My dogs came to me on Diamond, I don't feed them these and I don't think its available in Canada. The breeder for the bullie said the bullie did good on the food, and I don't have contact with Stormy's previous owner so I am not sure if they had these issues previously. I am not sure if I have access to Natures Variety but when I decide to change their food I will look into that or Wellness again. My yorkie was a picky eater for a while and just since I changed her over to Blue in March she has been on it good so I hate to change it, but I will try the shampoo first and see if that helps any! Thanks for the advice! | |
