| Advantage 10 seems to be a popular one for fleas and ticks. Frontline Plus works for fleas, but not sure about ticks, however, some seem to have reactions to that so it depends on which you're most comfortable with using. For the years I've used Advantage, I don't think it prevented them from getting fleas so much as it helped to kill them off. It works to kill them when they bite your dog. It's been suggested that bathing your dog in regular Dawn Dish Detergent is the safest to rid your dog of fleas that are on it, but not so much to prevent them from hopping on for a ride. Hope this helps. |

| How early can you start your pup on flea prevention? We have comfortis (think thats how its spelled) for my chi. Is that safe for yorkies? We also used Sentinal for my peekapoo but we switched vets and my new vet says its not safe, anyone know why? We live in Florida and flea prevention is a MUST!! |

| I used Frontline Plus but I've found two ticks on Jackson in the past few weeks so I'm not very happy with it. I think I'll be switching to K9 Advantix which repels ticks, mosquitos, fleas, etc whereas I've learned Frontline does not repel them, only kills them once they're on.

| I use Frontline Plus. I do have to check Piper every day for ticks and I always find at least one on her a day. The tick will be attached but not engorged. Frontline does not prevent the tick from attaching it just kills it once it's attached so they usually aren't feasting for days. Sometimes the tick will be attached but already dead. We have 5 acres of woods and there is a high tick population around here and ticks are just a part of life. I'm always finding ticks on myself or just crawling across the floor.

| You can look in to advantage multi, it's for fleas, ticks, heartworm, earmites and one or two other things. I have my outside dogs on that, and the inside ones only on k9 advantix, as they're hardly ever outside |

| I'm not a huge fan of the store brand flea and tick products. But I do understand the need for them, especially in places where there is an abundance of these pests. I like to search for herbal remedies for most things I can help prevent. I found a little article I bookmarked that lists a few natural alternatives to preventing fleas and ticks. http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/Natural-Fle... I've been following it for a while and it's been working great. Even if it isn't 100% effective, the general health of my dog has improved. I hope you find a solution that works for you. |
