Autoimmune Disorder? I just recieved a phone call at work saying Miles' sister died this morning (my a co-worker of mine bought his brother, and her parents bought his sister...thus the reason I was able to be notified). They all just turned a year old in March, so clearly she died very young. From the information I'm getting, the vet is saying she had some type of autoimmune disorder, they were going to do a blood transfusion, and she died right before they were going to take her in for the procedure. My co-worker said something about how her own blood was essentially attacking her body. Needless to say, I'm freaking out. We'll get more info from the vet later, but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with something like this. I'm hoping this isn't something that's hereditary. I don't know what I would do if I lost Miles. |
You'll need more information from the vet, but it probably is genetic. I'm sure that's why you were notified. Here is some general information for you: Dog Owner's Guide: Autoimmune diseases |
Thanks for your response and the info. I really appreciate it. So far the only thing I've heard is that an indication of her disease was that her white blood cell count was really low. I'm not sure what "condition" that would be exactly, but I'm sure I'll find more out eventually. Miles had a blood test done several months ago, and his WBC count was fine, so that makes me feel a little better...but still, I know these things can develop over time. |
Did you find out more info? Angel‘s WBC count is really low, and we don‘t know the cause. Please see my most here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-very-low.html. Thanks. |
