Orijen dog food I just picked up a couple trial size bags of Orijen dog food. I fed it to my picky eater Lola and she gobbled it down. They have an interesting web site and their thoughts about dog food ingredients. I was wondering if anyone else is using this food? |
I was looking into buying it also but the pet store didn't have it so I got natural balance they seem to like it. |
I now feed raw, but when I was feeding kibble - Orijen was the kibble I fed before raw. I really love their philosophy regarding nutrition and think their kibbles are very good. :) |
Orijen ROCKS!!!!! I was either going to go with Orijen or EVO, and Snick chose Evo, but Orijen is FANTASTIC!! Just watch your pup, some don't do well on the high protein, Snick does fine....but he is pretty active |
both my pups are on orijen and they love it! they get their daily serving, but if i were to leave the bag opened and unattended, i'm sure they will eat all the way to the bottom of the bag. |
Mya is a picky eater also, I never thought I would find a food that she would willingly eat without me having to play "food games" with her to coax her into it. She LOVES it...and it is a 6 star food so I am a huge advocate. |
I have a few questions for the Orijen users :)! 1. Is the size of the kibble ok for your little ones? 2. How are they doing with the high protein diet? Is it effecting stools (sorry to be graphic), weight gain, energy, etc.? 3. Have you noticed a significant change for the better concerning their health? Chase is currently on Innova and it does contain brown rice and barley, but I think they are healthy forms of carbs/grains. I know from reading countless posts on this forum and researching online that grainless is best for dogs :animal36. *He started on Wellness Puppy, but I switched him over to Innova and he really loves it! |
We picked up a bag of Orijen Puppy for our 7 month old last night. He seemed to like it better than the Natural Balance Ultra Premium, however it looked like he had trouble eating it. It would take him multiple tries. I'm still trying to research the whole high protein issue, but keep getting mixed reviews. Will monitor his stools the next few days and see what happens. |
Mya has never had any "potty issues" :) from Orijen, if anything it has made her more consistant |
Anyone experience trouble actually eating the kibble? Pilot has gotten most of his adult teeth in but it seems like he cant break it in half.. he has to keep spitting it out to eat it. |
Lucas is close to done his first bag of Orijen puppy, and up until this week, I was taking his daily amount and cutting it up a bit (he had a problem eating the whole pieces ) But now that he has all his adult teeth he is fine with the size, we just did it gradually. He seems to like it, I just worry about the high protein, and that it may be working his kidneys a bit hard? I'm not 100% sure though. |
We LOVE Orijen! [quote=jc212;2564150]I have a few questions for the Orijen users :)! 1. Is the size of the kibble ok for your little ones? 2. How are they doing with the high protein diet? I made the change over to orijen food a few months ago when I noticed that Kiwi was having severe allergy symptoms. My vet suggested that it may be a food allergy and to put her on a food that was grain free and meat free. I went to my local dog health food store and found the 6 Fish Orijen food and it has been AMAZING! Kiwi is about 5 pounds and has no problem with the kibble size. As for feeding amount I feed a little less then the recommended amount. Stools are good and energy is great. Because of the wonderful results and to make my life easier I have changed both my girls to this food. I can't say enough good things about it! |
Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad all of your babies are doing so well on it. Orijen is definitely on my list of next food to try. *I'm also going to research the high protein vs moderate protein arguments. |
Pilot was able to eat the kibble fine tonight, I guess he was just playing with his food last night (he likes to fling it around before eating it sometimes). His urine is a bit darker and his stool was more of a toothpaste consistency. He's already chosing the Orijen over NB Ultra Premium, though it could be because its new. He also seems to be drinking a bit more water, which is good! I will continue to monitor! :aimeeyork |
we are on our second bag of orijen fish and i mix it with NOW food they are both very good foods and our yorkies are all pretty small i was a bit concerned about the protein but they are all doing great and our gracie has all the allergys is now showing no signs of itching . |
