I bought the organic coconut oil from Meijer for 10 bucks. It came in a solid form and you have to let it melt in warm water. I put some on my hands and rubbed it in and then on Snickers....left him shiny and soft, no residue on our bed. But I didn't use too much. I put it on my hands like lotion and he licked it off. :) |
Thanks for sharing this |
No one has answerd yet what someone else asked...for Flea Control do you put some on their skin of have them take it internally ????? Thanks |
The OP mentioned that she put the oil right on the effected area and the fleas were history. |
Flea Remedy Thanks for this great tip :aimeeyork |
Wow thank you for the great info!:D |
no coconut smell :( So I rushed out and bought some coconut oil at my health food store and put it on Gypsy, who sometimes has dry skin. I was sad when she didn't smell like my coconut body butter from the Body Shop (side note: I am obsessed with the Body Shop coconut products and smell). Does any of your coconut oil have a natural scent in it? Or are all of the brans that you used pretty nuetral smelling? |
well i tried the coconut oil and it didn't' work on Tyke...:( had to use Advantix......we'll see I've tried all kinds of natural things and nothing is helping this year.... |
coconut oil is a natural remedy for lice on humans too. i prefer olive oil on my dry skin. FYI |
Is it safe for all ages and size of puppies? and to digest too? |
Does anyone know if it would work on ticks also? I never really worried about it until I found a tick on my Millie. Ewwwww. So now I would like to research all options. ~C |

This is the kind I use: Organic cold-pressed Coconut oil. I just bought it from the cooking oils section of a local supermarket (Urban Fare). It does leave a pleasantly light scent of coconut on her. |
wow! am into natural remedies and this sound so great..can i find this product in the pet stores or just health food stores? and do i put it on her while she still wet after a bath?:aimeeyork:yorkietal |
memeof4 I order some hand pressed coconut oil from Nutiva. I gave Izzy a bath first and let her dry she has very itchy skin and is allways scratching so I don't blow dry her hair. She also has cotteny hair from her waist back and is always frizzy. I have tried all kind of shampoos and conditioners and nothing seems to work. We have sand fleas in our yard and have tried everything on the yard and nothing has worked there either. After Izzy dried I put a small amount in my hand and rubbed it in her coat then combed it in the next day she went outside and not one flea was on her. I have to check her everytime she goes outside before she comes back in which is constanly (she loves outside) I also give her 1/8 teaspoon in her food every other day. It has been 2weeks now and not a flea on her also her hair in the back has finally laid down...no more frizzy....This product is great so far. It dose make her alittle oily at first but then seems to go away after a few days. But its worth it to me not to have the fleas and the scratching... |
I don't know what we are doing wrong. I gave my girls a bath a couple of weeks ago, then used the coconut oil. Like the OP said, they were a bit greasy for a couple of days. My girls sleep with me. Over the last week I have become covered with flea bits. Do I need to apply the oil weekly? |
Oh no!!! Do you mind if I ask how do flea bites in a human look?? I know they leave flea dirt on dogs and their bites look like lil pimples, but do flea bites on people itch?? Now everytime I itch or get some sort of anything, I fear of fleas. |

Flea bites effect people differently, depending on how allergic you are to them. When I get bit by a flea it itches intensely but just leaves a tiny red mark. Other people might get a big bump like a mosquito bite. |

Just ordered some coconut oil! I hope it works. |
i've been working my way through the flea threads, and so far... people have said that peppermint oil, and coconut oil work well, as well as rubbing dawn on, and then bathing.... what about olive oil? do you think it's the suffocation of the flea that makes it effective? i have olive oil, but not peppermint or coconut oil, lol. just checking to see if i could use something i have on hand. |
this was a neat short article... it had to do with cats, but talked about olive oil to treat... rub on, and leave on for 4 hours, and then shampoo out. also someone mentioned cedar oil on brown paper in the corners of the house can repel the fleas... interesting. :) Olive Oil for Fleas this one was good too. http://www.articlesbase.com/pets-art...s-1037581.html "One great way to get rid of them is to use natural olive oil because studies show that coating your dog in olive oil will kill the fleas and get rid of them for good. After you have used the olive oil you want to make sure that you give you dog several baths with dog approved shampoo so you can get the olive oil out. It will take a few baths to get it all out of your dogs coat so make sure you give them multiple baths. How to: Naturally Rid Pests Another remedy that works well is to use house salt were your dog lays around because the salt will get on there coat and fleas do not like salt at all. This is another recommended way to get rid of unwanted pest on your beloved dog and is also a safe alternative." |
