Been hearing so much about Coconut oil lately, so interesting! Great tip for fleas. :)

Thanks much. I have been looking for a more natural flea control method. I just ordered some of the coconut oil. How often should I apply the oil?

Lady gets coconut oil in her homecooked meals rather than canola oil. It's recommended for dogs with sensitive digestive systems (Lady is prone to HGE). I've been hearing more and more about the health benefits, too.

i use it for my yorkies also. i use it on their coats and sometimes put half a teaspoon in their food. i get mine in a huge jar (like face cream) at Walmart for 9.98

I just went and bought some coconut oil today at our local health food store to try for fleas. I put some on him around lunch today and i haven't seen Tyke scratching like he has been........so keeping my fingers crossed that this works out. :) thanks for your tips.

oh and the lady at the health food store wants me to call them and tell them if this works, so she can tell her customers that want something natural for fleas.....ha that's so funny. And that was the first time i went in there. it is a cool store. i'll have to go back.

I didn't know they sell this at wal-mart and that's a better price.....hmmmm

Do you put it all over the body or do you just put a spot of it on there back? And you don't have fleas either?

Great tips. I'm always looking for a more "natural" way to keep the little critters (fleas) off my guys, especially Zeke w/his flea allergy. Does it work on ticks as well? Does coconut oil work the same as vitamin E on irritated skin and some of the same soothing/healing qualities as "E". Can pm or post.

My mom always use coconut oil it does wonder on your skin, my twin came to visit and I ask her to bring me some I love that stuff:D

I have been told if you're using the coconut oil for the optimum health benefits, it's important to use the "hand-pressed virgin coconut oil" as opposed to the "expeller pressed". For general coat care (conditioning, etc.) a less expensive version might be okay.

IDK about the flea control so much, but for conditioning I used only a small amount (pea size or less) rubbed into my hands, then went over the entire yorkie body......then I combed it through. It does leave an oily residue on their coats, and if too much is used you might want to protect your furniture.

I have used organic coconut oil for many years for different things. It is very greasy...it is an oil. I've never used it on Prince because it is so oily and he always naps on our bed. I don't know if it would stain, but it would def leave a "spot."
