Little white bug on Fur
 
When I got Libbie she had little white flakes all over. I asked the vet about it and she didn't seem concern about it and said that it could be the shampoo so I switched to a diffrent shampoo "pet head". Anyways as she was sleeping on my lap yesterday night I started to kinda pick on her flakes to remove them from her fur. I notice something stuck to her skin in between her eyes so I started to pick on that. I pulled it out and it wasnt' easy...it was sticky onto her skin and fur! Then all the sudden while I was removing the rest of teh white stuff I notice two little white/creamish bug around that area. What is that? How come my vet didn't notice it?! Should I take her to another vet to see?! Has anybody ever seen such thing on their yorkies?

Sounds gross, but, save the two little bugs in a plastic and bring them to the vet.
That way he has got something to examine. Good luck!

On second thought I don't think its worm cause its like little scabes above the skin not under.... at least the ones that I've seen.

They're not maggots are they? Be careful of flies laying their eggs in a wound or sore thats already there. :eek:

I don't think its maggots. It MIGHT be fly eggs. EWW! I think I'm going to take her to a diffrent vet when I get home. :( Poor baby!

I think it is worms now... I was doing some research online and called to vet and they said the same thing. I have to bring in a stool sample asap to them... is ther any harm that is going to happend to my fur baby? I notice shes been scratching a lot more then usual..

Will I need to scrub everything down? Her bed, playpen, bed sheets....pretty much everything she has touched. Would it harm me? I slept w/ her the first four night I had her...What about my brothers dog...she sorta played with her and they were both in the same yard.

I would definitely wash her things, and blankets that she has laid on, just as a precaution!:thumbup:

I would wash her bedding not because they can be transferred that way, but because...and I mean no offense..worms are yucky. No you won't "catch" them...puppies get worms in vitro.

There are other types of worms...you can ask your vet when you see him. That will tell you whether or not the other dog should be treated.

I agree w/ you 100% ... worms are YUCKY! When I saw the little white thing crawling I freaked out and wanted to throw it and her off me but.... she's my baby so I just let her lay there. :p

Is there a certian shampoo that I'm suppose to use to get rid of the white stuff on her skin/fur?

So good news..... I took a stool sample to the vet and they will take a look at it and get back to me tomorrow morning. I can't wait I wanna know! I want to make sure shes okay. I gave her a bath to sooth her itchy self.....

It sounds like a mite rather than a worm. If it's not something in her stool, then you might check into that. Just take the dog into the vet and have them look at it, or put one in a baggy and take that in. When kids get lice, they cling to the hair shaft like that and are small white wingless bugs. I'm pretty sure it will take a special insecticide shampoo to get rid of them, if that's what it is.

yeah, mite would have been my second guess but they said that the naked eye cannot see it unless its under a microscope. So I dont know. . . . . I'm getting the results in today..hopefully soon so I'll keep you guys posted!

this was my first thought too. I took a stray cat to the vets once because it had really flaky skin and a few moving white things and it was lice.

I got the call back...
 
and shes positive for worms! The vet told me that it cannot effect anybody unless you touch the stool. I'm the only one that has touched her stool but I always washed me hands right after and of course with a napkin wraped around her stool. All the suddenly, I'm starting to feel all itchy! haha. The vet is going to perscribe some meds for her. Does anybody know about how much I should give her? Remember on Monday she weigh only 1.2oz so I don't want to over dose her. (I'm freaked about over dosing :eek: with all the stories I hear.)

Then I started to ask about the moving white things... a grain of rice. They want me to bring her in right away to see if its MAGGOTS! :eek:

I'm so scared I dont' know what to do... I gotta see if I can leave early!

Straw lice
 
has anybody ever heard of straw lice?

I called the breeder and she said that she has seen it before on her dogs. And to wash the dog with flea and ticks shampoo then finish it off with a human conditioner or oatmeal.

She has straw lice and also worms? Poor baby! I bet she will be feel so much better after getting shampooed and medicated and gets rid of those things! Thank goodness you took her to the vet. :)

She has worms and being treated for it... and the the little white bugs, well the breeder is saying that it could be straw lice. WHAT IS STRAW LICE? I've never heard of such a thing.....
