Is my puppy TOO YOUNG? So finally after quiet some time I finally got my puppy last friday at 7:05pm. :D She is super adorable and only weighs 1lbs when I got her Took her to the vet yesterday and she weigh 1lb and 2oz after eating. :)....... the vet takes her to the back room to show her off and I'm guessing to exam her because she was gone w/ my pup for at least 10-15 min. Anywho, she comes back and tells me that my puppy might not be 9 wks...... shes 4-8 weeks only :eek:. She explained to me the puppy is extremly small so she was a little concern.. She kept looking at her teeth. I guess they were not fully grown or whatever. But I told her my baby was doing good and eating her food well. So when I got home I called the breeder right away! She told me that the VET does not know what she is talking about and how SMALL breeds are diffrent from larger breeds. Something about their teeth don't all come out until they get a little older. And she also mention that a lot of people been saying that the Vet has been saying that her pups are younger then what they really are. The breeder then mention that she has FULL akc papers and that w/ that she can't lie the date of birth. She was extremly PO that my vet has said that.... I'm totally confused:confused:...... do you guys think the vet is right or is the breeder right? I'm just looking for answers..... |

did you take the pup to her Vet or a different Vet? At this point I do not think it makes a difference who is right as I am sure you are in love with your new pup. Since the Vet believes the pup is younger I would want to know the proper care and feeding scheduale for a pup that age. You might also want to post in the breeder section on this site as to how to care for a pup so young. There is a wealth of information on this site all you have to do is ask for it. Good Luck |

I took her to my own vet in WI. Well she told me that if my furbaby is doing great on the regular dog food then to not worry about anything else. But then again... I'm not sure who the believe because my vet does not seem like she knows much about yorkies... should I switch her to a diffrent vet? |

Is it her in your avatar picture? If you can post a big picture of her, we could help you telling her "approximative" age. |

If you know anyone with a yorkie I would ask who they use, otherwise call a local rescue for small dogs it might be hard to find an only yorkie rescue so if you look for small dog you might have better luck and see who they recomend in your area. Anothr good place to check would be at local dog boutiques most of the times they cater to the small dog crowd and can point you in the right direction. |

Aww she's very cute. Her coat is too full/fluffy to be under 8 weeks of age. She is very small....and you must be extra cautious to prevent hypoglycemia. There's a great risk for this with tinies. Make sure she eats frequent meals. Give her nytrical once in the morning...the evening and again at bedtime. Do not leave her alone for extended periods of time. Should she ever act wobbly or not able to hold up her head...immediately rub karo syrup on her gums and get her to the vet pronto. Personally I would switch to a vet more knowledable about small breeds. |

She is absolutely adorable! She does look a little young, how young I am not sure. It sounds like you are taking very good care of her. Keep on loving her and she will be perfect! ~Kathy:animal-pa |

Just have to say that you gotta love a puppy that loves Bud Light!!! Seriously - she's too cute!! Good luck with her. BAxter has that same ball and loves it. |

Look like your dog will be EXTREMELY tiny so you will have to be really careful. |

She's absolutely adorable! Yes, I would suggest you find a vet with more experience of toy breeds. She's going to be very tiny and that itself brings it's own set of circumstances. Be sure to feed her often as in every few hours to keep her blood sugar up. May I suggest that you also put a bell on her collar? That way you'll know where she is and it's less likely she'll get stepped on. Lola was forever under my feet. She is just too cute! |

shes adorable! And so petite! Gotta love the photos! Have fun. I too am having a hard time finding a vet in my area that specializes in smaller breeds....but for what its worth I think your pup is older than 8 weeks, just from photos Ive seen on YT...pups seems smoother when younger...if that makes sense... |
