I was wondering if anybody can tell me why my two youngest have bad breath. They are 5 months old and my female's is the worst. I would love to take her to the vet but times are really tough right now. Can someone HELP? i have 4 total and the two babies are the only ones. I have not had any problems with the older ones. PLEASE HELP!!!

She is probably teething.
That is very normal.

Hopefully all of her baby teeth fall out or the remaining will need to be pulled.

When my 2 babys had bad breath was because they needed to get some teeth pulled and cleaned. after that it was gone.

Sadly is it not cheap at all =(

Sounds to me like they are teething. Sometimes when puppies start loosing their baby teeth, they will either swollow them, or just fall out, and the smell could be dried blood. If your babies get fixed, they usually will extract any remainding baby teeth.

I wasn't aware of the teething thing. Maybe thats why Chloes smelled too!

also, have you tried brushing? I got a little kit with the brush and toothpaste at Petco and Chloe really doesnt mind it...Im trying to starte her early so she gets used to it.

My little man's breath is really bad too. He's about a year old now. Ive been told it was because he was teething. but as far as weve been told everything is normal. We've tried to brush his teeth but he hates it so its very difficult. We found some puppy breath mints at petco that do a fairly good job, if you can get him to eat them.

I don't know about the younger dogs, but I have a pomeranian who is 3yrs old. When I was at the vets office, I asked him about her breath and he looked at her teeth and mouth. He told me that little dogs have a short esophagus. So the acid from their stomachs can put off an odor. It can also start rotting teeth. Especially, if it's coming up their throat (like heartburn) We changed her diet to decrease the acid. He gave us a enzyme to put in the dogs' water. Her breath is so much better! The enzyme is called C.E.T. Aquadent. It's manufactured by Virbac. Hope this helps someone

I can remember when Lucky was a puppy his breath had an odor. I think once he got around 9 months or so it left thank goodness.
